Guilds/Alignments/Classes for the Casual Player

Hey everyone, I am considering returning to the game after an extended absence, and I was hoping to get some input before beginning anew. I am someone who doesn't have a whole lot of time to invest in playing games anymore, between work and family, and part of the problem I encountered when playing here before was that everything I tried just seemed to require far too much time investment for me to find much to do over a few hours of play time. So I'm wondering what the community of players here thinks is the best character type for a casual player to play is so that, at any given time, if I log in I can find people to RP or adventure with (beyond sitting at the campfire chit-chatting for 2 hours). It seems like a good-guy, gets along with everyone type would be ideal, and it would be best to shy away from the antisocial, only gets along with a select few (IE evil) types. Similarly, I'm sure there are some guilds out there that are better suited to casual players, don't require heavy time investment, or almost always have players online.

As far as alignments go, Neutral Good should suit you fine. It's intrinsically good, but doesn't have any particular commitment to either law or freedom.

I am not sure if you were intending on playing a more good aligned character or evil character...? (only gets along with a select few - evil types? made me wonder)...

Most guilds require some investment... or at least commitment! The guild that I have noticed who seem to pretty much always have someone online is The Silver Shield, a mercenary group.

The other big factions would be the Orders but they have quite many restrictions on joining. I can not really think of any other guilds which fulfill your criteria.

I would place this group amongst the top for activity, purpose, ease of passage and goodly:

Order of the Silver Rose

Class:
Try searching for BGTSCC builds on nwn2db.com. Comments tell you what's easy to farm, so you don't have to put too much effort in there.

Alignment:
XX NG CG
LN TN CN
LE XX XX

LG will make you enemies and can come with some obligations, best to avoid it.

NE and CE come with a tendency to do evil, illegal things. That can get you in trouble. LE means you get to be selfish, don't have to do anything for other people, but aren't about to break the law yourself.

Guilds:
The Silver Shield is a mercenary company that's pretty easy to spot, huge membership, and helps you level and get settled in quickly without a ton of time invested. They've got black capes with big crosses on them, hard to miss. They're pretty agnostic about alignment/deity, so it's a good fit for everyone but paladins and obvious criminals. There's enough of them that you don't have to be on all the time to interact with your guild.

Awe thanks Mav!

Considering racial groups, there's more than a few options for guilds. It all comes down to what sort of character you want to play. I play in the Silver Rose and we certainly have casual players. Many of the guilds will also have forum RP that you could take part in to keep you connected to events and ongoings.

I would also disagree with the statement that playing LG makes you enemies. What makes you enemies is interacting with the evil characters and I've seen this regardless of the law-chaos axis.

Overall i'd recommend playing a class or class combination that you are really interested in and is going to really stimulate you. That is what is going to bring your character to life. I think it will be easier to help direct you to guilds once you have this idea locked in.
