Background:
The tribe she was born to resided within the Yuirwood, it is said they once lived in their hundreds. As winters past sections of the tribe splintered off, but the core Tamaiti remained nestled in the wood living together with nature. There are many legends as to how the Tamaiti were blessed with the ability to form into great bears, but they all share in common the endower as the ancient spirit, Magnar the bear.
The tribe consisted of many bear warriors, rangers and druids. The druids and rangers would often be honored by bear companions, these bears would become a part of the tribe, respected as elders. Many winters past, the Tamaiti defended Magnar’s forest, and in return Magnar gave them his boon.
The Tamaiti did not pay too much notice to the elves and half-elves who called the Yuirwood home. The few encounters they did have were usually amiable, but brief. They would call upon each other when threats arose against the woods, the Tamaiti sometimes too prideful to ask. It has been known in the past, but very rarely half-elves would be born to the tribe. It is said all Tamaiti as of now have at least a small trace of elven blood, hinted at by their ever so slightly pointed ears. However the Tamaiti and the elves usually kept to themselves.
In battle the Tamaiti were ferocious defenders of the woods they called home, slightly haughty. They would perform a traditional war cry, a challenge to their foe, before facing them in battle. The spectacle would end with a thunderous roaring, capable of sending shiver down even the most hardy warrior’s spine, as the Tamaiti would charge forward relentlessly in the form of giant bears. Their headlong tactics resulted in many causalities in battle, it is no surprise their numbers dwindled over time.
When Aroha was born to the tribe their numbers were only in the tens. I will leave the details of her upbringing and tribal lore to a dairy I have planned for her, or this could go on for pages. Her tribe was weak in numbers, but strong in heart. At the age of 18 Aroha and her tribe were confronted by a band of trolls heading east through the forest, retreating from their home in the Umber Marsh for a reason unknown to the tribe.
A fierce battle ensued, at the conclusion only two bears were left standing, Moana and Hare. They roared in grievance and pain as they searched through the remains of their tribe, searching for signs of life from their human counterparts. They came upon Aroha, her hair bloodstained red, sprawled out, but a faint sign of life as she chest slowly rose and fell. After licking her wounds clean the dragged her back to their den. Though still midsummer, the bears and still unconscious Aroha hibernated till spring.
Upon waking Aroha was perplexed, it took her moons to come back to the reality of what happened. The Tamaiti’s time in the Yuirwood had ended, as summer dawned again Aroha led Moana and Hare to one of the many half-elven tribes. It was there she bid farewell to two longtime friends and the place she once called home. She began her journey east.

Goals:
To find her place in the world, maybe a new tribe but for now it is in following Magnars teaching.
She fights to honor Magnar, in hopes he might recognize her and bless her with his guidance.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Despite her hard appearance the Tamaiti are very emotional people, mourning can take months to fade. They show their emotions through wails and roars, bellowing in triumph, challenge, or mournful whimpers. They are usually amiable to strangers. That being said they hold suspicion against those who use the arcane arts, and treat them with unease. Divine wielders are usually well accepted once their purpose has been known.
Even though she is chaotic in nature, believing laws and rules are not required for a person to do good. She holds loyalty, and fulfilling oaths and commitments in high regard. Relationships within the tribe were casual things, till both parties agreed to make a commitment, in which they were almost always for life. It was deeply frown upon to break the commitment even if consented by both sides.
The form of bears they were bless with each had their own unique patterns on their fur, usually a shade of red though other colors were not uncommon. They believe this is reminiscent of Magnar himself, who they revere as beautifully colored bear, much like Okku.

Every Tamaiti blessed with the ability to turn into a bear has their body tattooed to match the markings on their bear form. Much like palm reading each marking has been given a meaning to it over time. Many also have tattooed on their back a colorful bear much like Aroha's, they are tributes to Magnar.
