Weapon of Choice: Spells
Background: Tarin is a descendant of Narthan Urd'nei - a transmuter. As a sole surviving son of the wizard, he, amongst many of his now deceased brothers and sisters was a target of many transmutation spells his father practised in a sick ambition, to create a perfect offspring, wizard genius that would boost his prestige. Twisted and turned, Tarin's siblings fell into embrace of insanity one after another and the two (apart from Tarin), who managed to survive the process to live to their first years of arcane training, perished at the hand of other students, with higher reflex at casting spells. Their downfall was noted as concentrating too long on assuming massive amounts of magical energy to topple their opponents.
As a final one of the batch, Narthan's approach to Tarin was more careful. The usual experiments continued to enhance his talent via magical means, but the amount of spells was not set to overkill and he was left out to experience the perils of the world more, to understand challenges, rather than easily overcome those, only to be outmatched by an older more powerful individual and collapse like a house of cards.
As Narthan's plan was finally coming to a successful conclusion, with Tarin preparing to join the school of mages and the prospect of massive gain in prestige was close in grasp, fate has laughed in Narthan's face once again. Tarin in his rebellious years, has chosen his school of magic to be conjuration - one banned from casting transmutation spells.
The two have remained at odds since that time, but under new protection Tarin ensured his continued existence and was set free of further experiments from his father. The head of research of conjurers himself has shown gratitude by saying 'thanks' taking the young apprentice on board and leaving Narthan brewing in a pot of anger and hatred, ridiculed by other representatives of their schools, during the recruitment event.
Goals: Tarin like any other drow is obsessed by power, but unlike others he has a clear and creative vision of obtaining it. As he is in the early stages of his research, he wishes to learn secrets of lands not yet probed by drow wizard hands.
Like his father or even more, he wishes to obtain prestige by delivering a power or spell yet unknown in Sshamath, to shadow his father's efforts and surface as an individual. He is ambitious and will soon begin to recruit lackeys to scout areas of power, few of his rank dare to enter.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
- Might be interested in establishing a relation with Candlekeep.
- He seeks information on many ancient beings, remembering secrets many mortals have already forgotten.
- He has a patronising bat familiar named Archibald.
- Needs lackeys and will search for those in near future.
- Always wears a mask and hood.
