Should we try to start Qu'ellar Zau'Afin
Posted: Fri Jan 31, 2014 10:05 pm
So my pros are I have experience running guilds having done it twice before, have in depth knowledge of role playing drow and drow lore, and am a decent roleplayer.
Cons are I'm a dad with two kids, a wife, a new house, and a job. I won't be able to pour my life and soul into the Qu'ellar, but will be able to help guide it adminstratiely and with forum management.
I want to do this because I love Zau'Afin, had many great times, and had great experiences with several players. I'm hoping to bring back 1 or 2 of the old guard and 1 or 2 people who would like to join in the future. Stompy is helping as well, but we are both a wee bit busy, but want to see this go forward.
I hope that Pinto can come back and reprise his role as Eclav, but I think he is not able. I would welcome any old player from the group to participate.
Myself I will be reprising my character Dilarra, the Dreaguard as well as a new character Mae'Dra, a Bae'Queshel. Stompy has made Eloril.
I'm adding here the first draft of what I would post to recruit players:
Qu’ellar Zau’Afin children of the web
Requirements to join:
As a demonstration of a player’s commitment to the UD and its strict dogma, no character below level 6 will be accepted. Please take the time to develop your character and its concept prior to seeking entry. Initiates can seek entry prior to lvl 6 with the understanding full membership will be granted at lvl 6.
All invites must be done through Role Play In Character.
Only the Ilharess, Yath’tallar, or House Masters have the authority to speak with a DM and approve a name change to include the surname Zau’Afin.
OOC HOUSE LEADERSHIP
The Matron, Ilharn, Yath’tallar and House Masters serve as leadership within the qu’ellar. OOC consideration is to be given to all members holding positions of authority, regardless of IC rank. This will ensure the stability and longevity of the qu’ellar. The idea here is that given an absence of a Matron or Yath’tallar, the house can still function.
Alignment: CN, Any Evil
Classes NOT allowed: Any class who’s over arching tenants are good in nature. Or common sense would say otherwise.
Deity: Lolth, Selvetarm
Race: Drow only, underdark races may serve the house but only Drow will have the house name
Structure/titles:
This house is based in a spider web fashion with the Matron Mother in the center as the queen spider and five strings like a spider’s web branching out. Each string represents a different faction of the house. The five strings in order of prestige are: Please note the Singers are somewhat unique to our house.
1. Priestesses/Yathrin
2. Singers/Bae’Queshel
3. Wizard/Faern
4. Assassins/Velg’larn
5. Warrior/Sargtlin
Each string of the web is controlled by a house master, with subsequent string members being subservient to their respective house master. All strings are subservient to the Matron Mother/Ilharess. She is the fat spider in the middle pulling all the strings.
A note about House masters: each house master will be able to promote anyone within their string. House masters are able to recruit new members and grant them full membership. OOC House masters serve as co-leaders of the house and have much influence. House masters are responsible and held accountable in character for the day to day affairs of their string. House masters will report the health and status of their string to the Matron mother on a regular basis. House masters should expect IC consequences for their respective string
Minimum Level Requirement for House Master: 15
Titles associated with each of the house master are:
1. High Priestess/Yath’tallar
2. Head Singer/Yath’Queshel
3. House Wizard/Qu’el’faeruk
4. Head Assassin/Qu’el’velguk
5. House Weapons Master/ Qu’el’saruk
Duties and responsibilities of each of the spider’s strings are:
Priestess/Yathrin
The Yathrin belong more to the church than to the house and have dedicated their lives to the church of Lolth. They are loyal to Lolth, the church and the greater good of the drow as a whole, before the house and her own desires. They are feared and respected by all members of the house save the matron mother herself. Their function within the house is to ensure absolute faith in Lolth and her doctrines. Yathrin must be able to lead prayers and be a source of lore for other house members. This is a serious position within the qu’ellar and comes with much responsibility. You must demonstrate above average knowledge and willingness to RP accordingly. Only the Matron can dispute the word of the priestess.
Singers/Bae’Queshel
This string of the house is unique to Qu’ellar Zau’Afin, and may not fit into colloquial drow lore. The Bae’Queshel are devout followers of Lolth who praise her through their song. It is not uncommon to see multiple singers attend house prayers. They typically sit in the background like a choir, set the mood and tempo during prayers and significant house events. They are highly respected members of this house. Even the most holy of prayers may have the head singer present. Only females will be allowed within this string of the qu’ellar.
Wizard/Faern
House wizards are often considered amongst the most privileged males. They are in charge of maintaining the wards protecting the house and all who dwell within it. The First Wizard oversees this and ensures all wizards are kept in line. Wizards are a tool to be used by the house, albeit a very important tool. Male wizards are comfortable in their position and often appear relaxed in the presence of all but the most powerful, but not too comfortable. Wizards of this qu’ellar although respected will always be subservient to even the most junior of Yathrin. Regardless of arcane power, wizards will maintain personal restraint or face sever IC consequences. Female wizards are acceptable but will have the same social status of their male counterparts. This position may require a good bit of personal restraint as a powerful wizard is still subservient to a weak priestess of Lolth.
Assassins/Velg’larn
Useful in gathering information, removing external threats to the house and thwarting assassination attempts against key house members. A highly valuable tool to the matron mother, only the very best assassins will survive within Qu’ellar Zau’Afin. Assassins must be able to think on their feet and react quickly and intelligently to any threat or circumstance that may arise. Qu’ellar Zau’Afin is neither for the weak willed nor the unskilled. Assassins will be used for a variety of missions to include assassinations of house enemies. Expect missions to infiltrate surface organizations and commit cold war era espionage. Female assassins will be accepted on a case by case basis. Generally speaking, females would not lower themselves to this lower ranked status. Only a low born low ranked female or a female who has lost much honor and favor within Lolthite society would ever take on the role of a male. Female assassins should expect to be treated as a male of the same position and status. A female assassin is lower ranked than a male wizard.
Warrior/Sargtlin
These make up the bulk of the house. They are used as house body guards and escorts when needed. Only the most skilled warriors will be allowed to remain within the house. A Sargtlin of Qu’ellar Zau’Afin is privy to the best weapons and armors, is well fed and indeed is a critical asset to the house defenses. Only a fool would disregard the usefulness of a highly skilled military force. This string of the web will typically be the largest and full of the nothing but the strongest soldiers. Expect to be treated like a grunt but well fed and taken care of. This is the lowest station within the qu’ellar. Females are accepted however will not be given rank and position any higher than other male Sargtlin. Generally speaking, females would not lower themselves to this lower ranked status. Only a low born low ranked female or a female who has lost much honor and favor within Lolthite society would ever take on the role of a male. Female Sargtlins should expect to be treated as a male of the same position and status. A female Sargtlin is lower ranked than a male Assassin.
Special Positions within the house:
Ilharn: Does whatever the Ilharess tells him to do *winks*
Yath'Sargtlin
Place Holder. Yes we will have this position. More research needs to be done.
Dread Guard
A Dread Guard is an elite warrior who has forsaken all rank and status within society and has committed themselves to the perfection of their battle skills. This position is unique to Qu’ellar Zau’Afin, and may not fit into colloquial drow lore. Additionally, Dread Guards of Zau’Afin swear an oath to protect the Qu’ellar and the Matron Mother at all costs and will give their lives in service to Zau’Afin. Dread Guards have no official standing within the Qu’ellar but rather will earn their status based upon their actions. As elite Drow committed to perfection, they will often be used to test other members of the house. A Dread Guard is subject only to the Matron and the Yath of the house. Only the most trusted, and seasoned warriors will be granted such a prestigious position.
Minimum lvl requirement 18+
Initiate:
Initiates consist of all the newly joined members of the house. Initiates are most often recruited by their respective house master and are in a limbo status until fully accepted by the Matron Mother. This is a short term position usually lasting only a few days or weeks. During this period the leadership of the house will observe the usefulness of the initiate and determine future eligibility to become a full member. During this period initiates are free to back out without incurring any IC repercussions. Also, RP will be heavily observed and weighed accordingly.
Rothe/Slave
Out of Character we respect our slaves. Slaves are fun and a valuable asset to drow RP and Lore. All reasonable accommodations will be given OOC to promote a PC slaves character development. This is a very tough position to play. In Character, slaves will be treated very poorly. Only the most committed players will be allowed to play a slave of this Qu’ellar. If you can demonstrate a commitment and willingness to be a slave then acceptance will be considered. Slaves with an unusual skill for power will be expected to keep themselves in check and RP correctly. There will be no demon summoning, earth shattering slaves allowed. Special consideration will be given for exceptional RPers. Slaves are house property and subject to the will of all members. However, OOC respect will be given to a slave player. Consent to torture is mandatory and all but the worst graphic RP must be acceptable. If you can’t handle torture or a moderate amount of graphic RP then please do not request slave status within the house.
OOC
We are a ROLEPLAY HEAVY organization. Members are required to:
1. Have a basic knowledge of the Underdark and its history.
2. Be familiar with all ranks, positions and titles as they relate to Drow lore.
3. Do their very best to stay in character at all times and promote drow Lore.
4. Demonstrate a moderate degree of professionalism and personal integrity.
5. Know there class and position within the hierarchy of the house.
6. Demonstrate a willingness to accept IC consequences for IC actions.
