Anyone got any tips to rp in disguise? I created an alt char going for Rogue/assassin/dread pirate and i plan on rp 90% in disguise, leaving the 10% for the real him to accomplish his dark deeds...

He personificates a couple of personalities to facilitate his life (which has already done wonders!) and leave no trails to be tracked when he goes on about his criminal life. Though a problem i have already faced is people metagaming the nametag, for example (and dont metagame this as well ) my char, disguised as a fully armoured mercenary with a fake name wearing a helmet that completely hided his face, met this guy on the road, and a few hours later i passed by the same guy but this time i was wearing a white robe and hat and completely rping as a weak good old man, yet the guy rped as if he had recognized me. (i also created specific character biographies, the examine thing, for the main disguises)

And what about going in for example inside the FAI walls, obviously taking off my helmet/hood would damage my character's ability to keep his own person unseen and unoticed, so should i just not go in such places? Or is there a rp out of such a situation.

Im putting points in perform, bluff, diplomacy, intimidate and a bunch of others a rogue obviously uses, so that should (?) confirm his ability to play roles and to have specific accents for specific disguises as not to let someone recognize his voice.

Anyway, anyone got any tips from their own experience from such a roleplay? Thanks!

My orc necromancer has a disguise description/set of clothes *just* for going in towns. Won't keep people from metagaming, but i can use it if they ever try to out me

Simian has a great guide on this but i cant find it in the search terms. What many players and DM forget, or do not choose to aknowledge for one reason or another, are merchants that would cater to the evil aligned characters and wouldn't care if you were wearing a mask. Most of their customers would be masked people. Not all merchants are neutral upstanding citizens and thus there should be no need for your guy to have to go into a busy market like that through any front door. Same with BG. Everyone acts like, "well everyone knopws the only way to get into BG is past guards and through a front gate. Really? Bet if I dig into lore, underground characters used other ways of entering like through tunnels, or smuggled in on a boat. This idea that if you cant be a nefarious character and find underground ways of selling and buying stuff, or traveling into cities, seems a bit strange. Not all business is done out in the open with a guard standing there. Where is the underground railroad man?!

In BG, you got the merchant 'Perch' which can be accessed without walking on BG's streets. Have to keep in mind that BG is very well guarded, 1 in 10 citizen belong in the Fist or a Fist agent so walking about with your mask on is a no-no. Need to sell stuff -and- look at your auctions while still wearing your favourite mask? Go to Roaringshore, little known info is that they have an auctioneer there and merchants. Guards in FAI would not let anyone past with a mask...

Some rules for disguises were actually drawn up. If someone metagames your name and you catch them, take a screenshot (just in case) of the conversation and explain to them OOCly that they cannot know your name. Do not bicker and argue OOCly, if it reaches that point, just send the screenshots to the DMs. Most of the times, people make a mistake/are tired/did not zoom in close enough/too many shadows etc... and are quick to take back such slip ups.

Ah yes thank you all for the tips and specially for the links, i am glad that what i was doing was mostly what was suggested in both links, though i didnt think about using fake noses and ears, surely will probably rp with it depending of the disguise from now on! And i also had completely forget about roaringshore, im sure i`ll go there most times i need to check the auction and merchants and all.

Good point on Roaringshore. It's just one of those places I don't go to. Maybe because its such a dead town in server terms (its no FAI in other words) and there's not much reason to go there in IG terms for many who play. But now that I know that maybe there is a reason to visit after all.

If they would only add a lift so you do not need to walk all the way up the mountain... Annoying with a bag full of loot and that slow, painful walk.
