Background: Grimm comes from Citadel Adbar, where he was once part of the Iron Guard, a military unit tasked with its defence against orcs from above and monsters from below. For a reason he is unwilling to discuss with anyone but the closest of friends, he was stripped of his rank and publically humiliated for the breaking of an oath. Dwarven tradition demands that a suspected oathbreaker be tested by the priests of Moradin, by striking at a tablet of stone. As Grimm struck the tablet, cracks revealed itself, but it would not break. This was a sure sign from the deity that Grimm had indeed broken his oath, and thus he was banished from dwarven lands never to return upon the penalty of death. He left his wife and son behind, was stripped of all possessions save his ancestral axe, and his flesh tatooed with the mark of an oathbreaker. This mark made him an outlaw in the eyes of his kin, and his family name "Goldshield" was taken away from him.

For a time, he served as a guard on a merchant ship in the sea of swords, fighting pirates that tried to board their vessel. It was during this time that his faith turned towards Istishia, guided by a priest aboard his ship.

Goals: Grimm struggles with the idea of redeeming himself, but having forsaken Moradin for the quiet and self-dependent Istishia, it is unlikely to happen. He dreams of returning to his family, but knows that it is not an event likely to occur in this life. Until then, he wanders the sword coast trying to preserve what little honour he has left, hoping to die for a worthy cause.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

His last name, "Oathbreaker", is not a last name but a title given to all those who are deemed as such. Most dwarves know this, and that it marks the dwarf as an outlaw outside the dwarven law. An oathbreaker may thus be killed without any repercussions.

Grimm carries a few items that serve as plot-hooks for revealing parts of his past. His most treasured of these is an enchanted wedding ring.

Grimm misses the sea dearly, and have more than once been hit with the idea of returning to a life at sea. He has been seen in the Roaringshore and the Baldur's Gate docks on more than one occassion, drinking heavily as he watched the sailors load and unload their trading goods.

Grimm is currently part of Kraak Helzak, until such a time that his kin finds out about his past. He finds the presence of other dwarves comforting, given that he has been away from his kin for many years prior.
