Kro Atraluna

Unread post by Tekill »

I edited this post making some small changes like removing the term Feywild and switching it with Faerie Realm.

Template For Character Creation Reward:

This character is a Feylock.
I read quite an interesting thread on this website regarding Warlocks, and the kinds of pacts available. Demons/Devils were well explained and outlined. Feylocks and Slaads (Slaadlocks?) were also given the green light, but not a lot of details provided on them. There was some general discussion and some (mature and friendly) debate, but nothing written in stone. The class as compared to others seems to have a focus on being evil, taboo or generally dark in nature yet without making it a requirement for characters to be evil, which the class from being two dimensional. This player description combines the two main characteristics of the Warlock “smooshed” together: the pact giver, and the pact receiver.

I tried to give it a sort of fable feel to it...tried.

First Name: Kro
Last Name: Atraluna

Appearance:
Race: Halfling/Hin
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Height: 2'10”
Weight: 32 lbs
Eyes: Bright White (changed from dark brown when the pact was made)
Hair: Black
Markings: Sylvan runes/symbols cover her face- the mark of the pact.

Personality Profile:
General Health: Short (even for a Hin), a bit underfed, but vibrant and full of energy.
Deity: None, She thinks the Faerie Realm is heaven and its magic, god- one day she will get to live there forever and ever!
Initial Alignment: CN
Profession: Warlock
Base Class & Proposed Development: Pure Warlock
Habits/Hobbies: A seeker of cheap thrills- she has lived a life of uninhibited reckless abandon.
Languages: Elven, Hin, Common,
Weapon of Choice: None
Disposition: She is an intense, fierce, ball of energy. A risk taking adrenaline junky, that will trade common sense for adventure every time. She is a bit emotionally unstable, raised to experience feelings without inhibition. Although this hyper-emotional state makes her obnoxious and immature at times, its also fun. She is a wild-card.

Background:

Kro was born into slavery- never knowing her family, or home, even her real name. Her earliest memories were of a tower in Calimport where she worked as a serving girl and handmaiden to a a young boy -a Teifling. Too young to be of any use as a servant, her main duty was to keep this Teifling company. The Teifling boy was nice to Kro, even called her sister once. It was the last time they saw each other, the night The Beacon's light summoned her....

Demesnes of Mother Beacon of the Faerie Realm: Home of The Beacon's Children

Name: Mother Beacon: real name Kro Nesh'annon Obon, resident of the Faerie Realm.
Race: Arch Unseelie Fey.
Although it is difficult to trace the exact origin of Mother Beacon, legend has it Kro Nesh'annon Obon was originally sired when a Hag deceptively polymorphed as a Noble Eldarin seduced a Noble Djinn.
Gender: Female
Age: Many Millenia
Appearance: An orb of white light the size of a Will-o'-the-wisp with a glow that can range from that of candle light to an intensity bright enough enough to be seen for many miles.
In her youth her appearance was that of a 9' tall beautiful Eldarin female genie (Djinn). This form has not been seen in thousands of years....
Initial Alignment: CE in her youth but over time her alignment changed to CN
Languages: Magically Speaks all languages
Background: Her early days -
When Kro Nesh'annon Obon was still young, thousands of years ago, she was a very beautiful, powerful, and very wicked monster. She did not require food, but she still enjoyed the taste of flesh, mortal flesh, the flesh of children. Over and over again, she relished the stalking, killing and eating children, always doing so with great pleasure and satisfaction.
At least until The Seelie Court(s) eventually condemned her diabolic eating habits, captured her and bound her into a genie prison. Instead of a usual genie lamp, this prison was made from a magic orb of white light. Once bound the orb was then placed far atop a mountain spire north of The Brokenstone Vale, (a village of lycanthrope- werewolves) where it/she can often be seen to this day, shining brightly.

Kro Nesh'annon Obon can be freed from the The Beacon's spire four times a year for a short time during a seasons solstice or equinox. For about a week or two during that particular season's change, she can take the form of an air elemental. Her magic is reduced when she is away from the Beacon's Spire and she can only be freed if someone approaches her orb of light and speaks the following phrase:

"Beneath the sun or falling rain, I yield to thee thy path again,"

She hungers:
Initially the light from her prison, only attracted creatures of darkness. Her first minion where basically corrupt souls (goblins) who in exchange for minor pacts, would go out and find children for her. Each pact made, each child found would grant the minion an ability, a Minor Season's Power – gained through a connection with whatever season they were in. These abilities had a the terrible side affect of twisting and deforming the recipients bodies in bizarre ways. The affects were permanent and always physical, such as making their hands and feet webbed like a frogs, sprouting insect wings from their backs, growing rams horns or deer antlers from their heads or bark or thorns from their skin. With enough of these powers bestowed upon them, any fey would become, freakish unseelie monstrosities.

Initially, the children she was given were doomed, having their life force drained from them. But over a very long time, she learned that sapping emotions was far more savory than a child's life force. The first emotion was fear, but eventually the menu expanded to almost any kind of strong feeling or emotion that a child experiences: fear, excitement, love, hate, happiness, anger and sadness etc.

Kro Nesh'annon Obon was never stopped a second time since she eventually stopped killing. Also, in order to stop her a second time, it would mean killing her, and in order to kill her, she first needed to be freed from her prison, something nobody was willing to do.

The Children of The Beacon:
She did not kill children anymore, their flesh no longer devoured, their life force no longer drained from their bodies. The Unseelie and other twisted minion would still find children to bring to the The Beacon's Spire, but now Kro Nesh'annon Obon would feast from the emotions from their day to day life. Over the years the Beacon's Spire slowly became a large keep, the basic necessities of the children taken cared for by the magic of Kro Nesh'annon Obon.

These children would have a home, have a family- raised to experience each and every high and low life offered as intensely as possible and as well, as often as possible. These youths grew wild and often feral, impulsive, capricious half suicidal thrill seekers – many of The Beacon's Children often had short lifespans.

There was no shortage of children. They were taken from all corners of the Faerie Realm and even from other planes. They had their freedom, came and went as they wanted, even free to choose their own paths in life. They could refuse the minor pacts, the gifts/curses of the Beacon's Spire, although more often then not The Children would grow up to become unseelie freaks, seeking out new children to take to the Beacon. In turn these children would grow up, guided by the Beacon's Light, to do the same.

Although children were “found” by just about any means, it turned out the easiest ones to take were children discarded by society: orphans, beggars, street urchins or any that would not be missed. Over time the wicked child eating Kro Nesh'annon Obon was forgotten, leaving only the benevolent matron of lost children, Mother Beacon.

The Pact:
When Kro was brought to Mother Beacon, she was a girl of about seven years old. The Children of The Beacon had taken her, rescuing her from her forced servitude in Calimport, and brought her all the way to the Beacon's Spire. Mother Beacon gave Kro her name and convinced her she would one day be a great hero -something Kro took to heart. Kro became one of The Children of The Beacon and was raised wild among unseelie and the other children. Kro managed to survive this life, while becoming a promising pupil of magic.

Mother Beacon admired both Kro's ability to thrive in the midst of chaos and as well, her interest in magic, and so made Kro a Feylock. At the very moment the pact was made, Kro was given a glance of the true fathomless depths of magic that infuses the Faerie Realm. As well, Kro briefly felt all the emotions Mother Beacon had consumed over all countless days of her existence. The binding was quick but the power involved was beyond explanation; it turned Kro's eyes from a dark brown to bright white and as well, may have driven Kro a bit mad. She now is guided by the light of The Beacon. Mother Beacon has sealed the deal, marking Kro's face with Sylvan runes, indicating Kro as one of the champions/servants of The Beacon.

Kro was then sent back to Toril, to serve Mother Beacon's interests.

Goals: Kro wants to develop her powers, as she believes her connection to magic and her connection to her Pact with Mother Beacon is a direct connection to the Faerie Realm. It was Mother Beacon that answered her prayers and not the God's so she does not worship any. She things that with enough of the Faerie Realms powers she will be able to anchor herself to that realm forever to become an immortal like Mother Beacon, or at least forever linked to the Faerie Realm. Mother Beacon has not lied to her but still has encouraged her nearly impossible dream.
What she wants more than anything is to be back in the Faerie Realm and only stays in drab ol' Toril because she is commanded to do so. Her powers grow, as she becomes a vessel of the Beacon's Light but being away from the Faerie Realm is also giving her doubt about her dreams.

A True Adventurer is a feast for Mother Beacon.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
-Mother Beacon is watching.
-Mother Beacon wants more children.
-Mother Beacon wants her light to shine as far away as possible.
-Mother Beacon wants to be freed.
-Mother Beacon found Kro for a reason.
-Mother Beacon has sent Kro to Baulder's Gate for a reason.
-Will Kro always follow Mother Beacon or will she find her own way?

One major aspect of the Feylock that really needs to be explored for character development is the source of the Feylock's Power - this Plane of the Faerie. I tend keep calling it Feywild in error, as there is a lot of source material on the Feywild, which I happen to really like lore wise.

There is not a lot of information on this "Realm or Plan of the Faerie" for 3.5 edition. It is not listed among the outer planes. If it was I would suspect it would be located just south of the Beastlands more to the Chaotic area of the planescape. Or it could make sense that it would be located in the Outlands. This would explain why it is not listed among the outer planes.

If you reverse engineer the Feywild to the days of 2nd 3rd and 3.5 edition, I think a decent understanding of it would be a realm where Brother Grimm meets Alice in Wonderland. A plane that maybe mirrors the prime in many ways and that sort of overlaps it and other planes such as Aborea or the Beastlands. I mention this because it states somewhere that the Seelie court often travels through Aborea where the Elderine come from. It still works, as the Seelie court can travel between Aborea and the Faerie Realm in the same way that people in the material plane often find themselves in the Faerie Realm. And it also explains how there are so many Fey/Fairy/Faerie/Sylvan outside the Faerie Realm.

For the most part it seems the fundamental aspects of the Feywild and Faerie Realm are the same.

It is important to make it clear while playing a Feylock to know exactly what this Deep Woods, or Realm or Plane of Faerie actually is.

Sound right?
