I currently have 8 umd (4 rank + cha) and can't use a lawful plus 1 shield or any form of scrolls.

DC13 for wands etc.

You need at least 1 skill point spent in UMD even if you have gear & CHA bonuses, because it's a skill that requires training.

Values: UMD 10 for wands, 13 for items, 25 + Spell Circle for scrolls (notice that in vanilla NWN2 this should be 20+SC. Here, it is NOT the case, so adjust as needed).

Have fun!

Try to aim either for 34 or 10-15(usefull to have moar when you're cursed).

Don't forget that those are adjusted ranks...

Which means that you can boost it with items and spells.

It's entirely possible (but unlikely) for someone who has 0 UMD naked, to have high UMD with items and spells (spells you can cast with those items on)

I did read the character sheet, it makes no sense. I should fulfill requirements.

Perhaps a better clarifying question is that are you counted as rolling 0 with these dcs? With UND 8 I csnt even use a plus 1 item, but 10+8= 18.


When I read the letters DC, in my brain that ALWAYS mean a D20 is involved.

I was honestly worries that UND was merged somehow or that my character was bugged.

You have 18 charisma (+4 modifier). You said that you have 4 ranks in UMD.

Thus, with no other increase to charisma you need a total of:

6 ranks in umd to use wands
9 ranks in umd to use restricted items
22 ranks in umd to use level 1 scrolls
30 ranks in umd to use level 9 scrolls

Ranks is skillpoints spent on the skill during Level Up. That's it. There are no dice involved here. You just need a certain amount of UMD to be able to do something.

You might be getting confused with level restriction. Items worth a certain amount of gold start to incur level restrictions to equip, so as not to allow level 1 player equipping level 30 gear. I think AC+2 gear needs level 5 etc. etc.

Alternatively...

You may be trying to equip an item that you don't have the proficiencies for, eg equipping a kama without "Exotic Weapon Proficiency"

  Equip/use items resitrcted by class - UMD 13
  
  Use wands - UMD 10
  Use rods - UMD 12
  Use scrolls* - UMD 11 + 2 x Spell Level (13 for 1st level, 29 for 9th level)
  Cast scrolls** - UMD 25 + 1 x Spell Level (26 for 1st level, 34 for 9th level)

**: No chance of failure

What UMD doesn't allow you to do, is use items that are restricted by level or require a specific proficiency, like Heavy Armor Proficiency.

Well I just tested it yesterday actually.. You need 29 UMD to use lvl 9 spells.

Strange then that Premonition (9th level) is flagged as useable for me when I have 28 UMD. Of course, this could be because I can't roll lower than a 1, and the game takes that into account.

Use is to be able to use it. Cast is to have guaranteed success.
