"The paths before us all are many and wild. It is no surprise that the multitude stay within their walls, behind their guards and close to long pacified lands. Yet hardy folk venture forth to test the paths, challenge the danger and reap the rewards. Their reasons their own, their methods unobserved and their future glorious...or very short. These wayfarers are the unloved tendrils of we the free peoples of Faerun, winding into the wilds so that maybe we may one day follow. Together they thrive where alone they will fall, the Helping Hand bless them all."
Ode to adventurers - a poor bard later thrown out of Red Larch for drunkenness

He thought back....
"Listen here you...you. You're weight in gold if you find me something lost, and keep your mouth shut about it. It will likely cause you to use that", he gestured the great axe next to Magnus, "and i suggest taking others with you".
"I was robbed, while riding at night", the man frowned to himself, "while riding...north of Beregost. Bandits and cursed walking lizards working together if you believe!"
"A statue, as big as your forearm, of jade green. A woman of unsurpassed beauty", the man began to muse with a far off expression, "...embracing a serpent...."his eyes glazed and voice hoarse,"...it is holy.....". After a moment his eyes refocused and snapping back to glare at Magnus, "Even one such as you will know it if you see it!"
"Remember to keep your mouth shut about this 'barbarian', the gold should be enough but you'll be killed if you try and find me. I will know if you have it and come looking."
....he growled in anger.
Taking the job had seemed a good idea but now he realised he'd either have to slaughter every bandit south of the Gate, or get lucky, or never see the gold. Was he the fool? Or the Baldurian who had set him the task. Maybe the pale man had just been desperate.
Still he had now traveled to Beregost with his new companions, perhaps it was time to ask some final questions and give up.
He spoke to them now in his broken common. His 3rd tongue:
"I go ask cavern guards if there be word of bandits and lizard fight together on the road, and where. Maybe we find and put some over a fire until they tell word of statue. Maybe you come Cyrrah, my common not so good."
"Randell, you think maybe town priests know of something? Pale man said statue be holy..and special. We not see priests of dead on road but other holy men here in Beregost know something if man say he come from here? *he shrugged knowing how long that shot was*
"Heinrich.....we need way back north. If giant and copying-things on road again, we not enough to face and live. Can find a way back?"
