Drow and their Racial (Light)
so from what my understanding is... it's pretty much bad to use this, cause if cast on yourself it blinds others, and if cast on others its seen as a hostile act.....why is this?
i mean i know how light reacts to the drow, but whats the point of having the racial then, can't we just RP it as the drow change their racial into a more " luminescent glow" similar to the fungi that coats the walls throughout the underdark, rather than a white-hot burning light like the sun?
it pretty much makes the racial pointless, save when you want to piss some other drow off.

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
This was discussed before, many times. When casting the drow racial spell light, you can rp it as being the dancing lights racial spell that drow are supposed to have. It will end any aggression there

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
It is handy for the reason mentioned.
In roleplay situations when you use the dancing lights to illuminate something beyond yourself (usually) and when needing to study fine print etc.
We have it as the Light spell sadly but I dont think there is a realistic chance of constructing the dancing light spell.
It does seem totally feasable to make a second Light spell with, say, blue or green light instead of brilliant yellow however.
In case any scripter feels there is to little to do...
Using it in public in downtown Sshamath means sending a blinding light towards everyone in the block, I would call that as somewhere between rude and pretty inconsiderate. After all, no one wants to walk around halfblind.
The main beef with using it in the tunnels is that it is like painting a massive target symbol on yourself while (as a drow/halfdrow/duergar) making yourself blind to what is in the darkness beyond the shadows. Which does seem like a rather illogical action to most.
But all that is mostly because of the brilliant yellow that should not be in the first place.
Some say the underdark is too dark in darkvision for their taste, others disagree.
Personally I favor even Lowlight vision over the Light spell on surface toons, unless there is a reason for torches or lanterns.
We all have our own opinions and wants.

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
If you cast Light an item you have equipped (can be anything), the light is MUCH less brighter. When you do not want the light any more, unequip the item.
There is a Dancing Lights spell..... but only Silverstar of Selune has it. There was talk about making that available for everyone except as talk often goes, nothing came of it.

Seeing as it is added on the server, I don't really see why it's not just available to everyone who should have it in lore...

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
Dancing Lights is several pretty lights swirling around the character, so stays with the character as they move. The light is dim and it looks very pretty, especially of we could have more colours instead of Selunite Blue.
It might work in Jegs to view but I am not too sure since it is a custom class and spell.

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
I developed racial feat before, making fairie fire into feat and adding it to race_feat_drow.2da is not difficult and does not take a lot of time. The only thing is I don't know how existing characters would interact with that (how they'll react to change in table of their feats). Either they'll need manual feat replacement or they'll reload new feats automatically. FEAT_RACIAL_LIGHT isn't even hardcoded, and therefore doesn't differ from custom spells/feats used on bgtscc.Nomster wrote:Dancing Lights is several pretty lights swirling around the character, so stays with the character as they move. Anyway, it is not a rocket science. Tad tedious, but easy to do.

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
What I don't understand is why would you RP the light cast by a drow as bright white hot light? I mean you know perfectly well it's supposed to be dancing lights, so why RP something that doesn't exist again? If you don't know, why not ask OOC in a tell before your character starts berating another character over a scripting issue? That doesn't seem IC at all. It's like making a mountain from a mole hill; except the mole hill doesn't even exist in this example. I'd find something more real and engaging to start up a confrontation.

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
Because we are supposed to react to what the game shows us based on game mechanics. Most every PC in the UD is a caster in some form and as such it's impossible to tell if it's racial Light, which can be RP'ed as Dancing Lights, or the regularitet Light spell, which cannot.

Re: Drow and their Racial (Light)
Personally, I thought the light spell was a form of the Daylight Pellets. These create the spell Daylight, which lasts for 10 rounds, and was used when Drow fought other Drow.
Basically, it caused a blinding effect on the unsuspecting target and the thrower was able to kill their target or run away.
