1313 DR, Year of the Shattered Oak:
Erlan'Igor (refered to as Igor from here on) was born on the seventh day of Hammer on the outskirts of the town Valls in Damara. His mother was a young human seamstress named Astrid and his father a half-sun-elven ranger of Angharradh and tanner named Jaro. His parents were well liked and although the family was not overly rich, they lived comfortably with their business making armour, clothes and various other cloth and leather products.
1318 DR, Year of the Tired Treant:
During a raid of goblins in early Alturiak, Igor's mother was injured by an arrow that hit her leg. The goblins were defeated, and his mother's wound seemed to be healing after a few days with good care. However, by the end of Ches, she was still not able to walk on the leg, even though the wound had been closed and healed, and Astrid had become weaker and weaker with illness and soon died.
A few months later Jaro, full of grief, took his son and moved to Heliogabalus, the largest city of Damara. Igor, being only five years old by now, wasn't quite old enough to join hunts, and so Jaro began to use his skills as an experienced ranger to earn a living, by acting as a healer and archery instructor for the city's guards. Some years later, however, Igor could finally join his father on hunts and Jaro started working as a guide and hunter again. On some of those guide trips, Igor started to find he had a natural talent for playing instruments and song.
1322 DR, Year of the Lurking Death:
Jaro had found new love a couple of years prior to 1322 in one of the few elves in Damara, a moon elven sorceress named Gillanna, who were also a wonderful singer. Jaro and Gillanna married on a warm and happy day in Eleasis. Igor and Gillanna had grown close, as Gillanna had become a kind and loving step mother who also encouraged him to practice his music even more. She also soon discovered hints of magic in the young boy's voice, and began to subtly train and prepare the boy for when the magic would manifest itself with approval of his father.
1326 DR, Year of the Striking Hawk
In early Marpenoth, a daugher was born to Jaro and Gillanna. They called her En'Nimala. Igor now had a moon elven half sister, for which he cared deeply. He sang to her every day, and as she aged, they grew as close as true siblings despite he being human and she being an elf.
1329 DR, Year of the Lost Helm
At the age of 16 Igor began training with one of the mercenary groups controlled by the merchant guilds of Heliogabalus. He showed promise early and had an inspiring effect on his fellow mercenaries. During this year his magic began to manifest, which he managed to control surprisingly well for someone with innate magic. When he was not training with the mercenaries he learned about his magic from his step mother and practiced entertaining his little sister with minor cantrips.
1335 DR, Year of the Snow Winds
In his 22nd year, his mercenary group was tasked to guard merchants from the guild who controlled the mercenaries on a trip to Almorel the town in the Endless Wastes, just west of the Hordelands. On the way back, they were to travel through Mulsantir. However, on the way there, they were waylaid by Thayan Red Wizards of the schools Conjuration and Necromancy, with fiendish servants and undead warriors. Most of his company was killed that day and he would have been as well, had it not been for the timely arrival of five armoured and masked powerful warriors. The masked warriors destroyed the remaining undead with ease, then defeated the fiends and sent the Red Wizards fleeing.
In the end, two of the six merchants had been slain and out of the 20 mercenaries guarding them, only the captain, Igor and another had survived. The masked warriors had then presented themselves as followers of Jergal. This was his first encounter with Jergalites. The jergalites made sure that the survivors were safe and would get to Mulsantir without further troubles. The remained quiet for most of the journey and Igor found them somewhat intimidating.
1338 DR, Year of the Wanderer
Igor was now a sergeant in the mercenary group and they had recruited well. His battle with the Thayans a few years earlier had made him more grim, however, as he had lost many of his friends in that battle. He was a stern, but fair leader.
In the middle of Uktar, his company was ordered to investigate with a threat on the Long Road. Few merchants had come from Narfell and those who did, told stories of finding abandoned caravans, many destroyed along the road in the Giantspire Mountain. Igor and ten other mercenaries went up into the mountains, where they were attacked by a horde of zombies and had to flee back down the mountain. Four of his men were lost and he began truly hating the undead.
1339 DR, Year of the Weeping Moon
By the beginning of Ches this year, the mountain pass over the Giantspire Mountains was very dangerous to travel, and now the mercenary groups of Heliogabalus had banded together to take care of this threat. In the mountains, yet again, they were attacked by a large host of undead. They lost many men, some of which were reanimated by an unseen necromancer, but in the end, they were victorious, even though they never found the necromancer.
The great losses however, were making Igor more grim, although he was still cheered up by spending time with his family, particularly his little sister.
1341 DR, Year of the Gate
Since the victory of the mercenaries over the undead two years earlier, Igor and his company had still been required to deal with undead threats in the mountain pass. Igor continued to see people he had known, some who were friends, as zombies. In the end, however, they had become more effective at battling the undead and the necromancer had come out of hiding to deal with the mercenaries himself.
In the night, when Igor's men had been camping on their way down the mountain after dealing with another small undead threat, three morghs and a vampire – the necromancer himself – had appeared and slain many of the men in their sleep. Igor himself had been awakened by the dying scream of one of the men on guard duty, and managed to pick up his shield and sword to defend himself. But the morgh had overpowered him easily and he was severely wounded.
He awoke in the morning again, further down the mountain in the care of an adventuring band who had come to the Giantspire Mountains after hearing of these troubles. One of these were a female human priest of Jergal named Neira, who had joined the adventuring band because they dedicated themselves to fighting undead and necromancers. This was Igor's second meeting with a Jergalite, and he spent time talking with Neira, telling her about all his battles with undead. Neira, in return, told him of the faith of Jergal and the temple known as the Crypt of Imminent Death in Bezantur, Thay. Over the next couple of years, Neira and her band of adventurers often came into contact with Igor again. Neira and Igor grew close and eventually became lovers.
1343 DR, Year of the Boot
At the age of 30, Igor had resigned from his mercenary band to travel with Neira – who herself had parted ways with the other adventurers – to Thay and to Bezantur and the temple of Jergal there. He spent two years in Thay, learning of the teachings and practices of Jergal's followers. He became particularly interested in the Companions of the Pallid Mask, who he had recognized as those he had met in Rashemen eight years earlier. He also took great interest in the church's sanctioning of some undead.
1345 DR, Year of the Saddle
Neira and Igor had troubles in their relationship. Igor had begun spending time with some Red Wizard of Necromancy who also followed Jergal, and he had started showing support for the sanctioned undead of the church even if he still loathed most undead. Neira was of another school of thought within the church, thinking they should never sanction undead at all. This all caused friction over time and eventually their relationship fell apart. Neira, who had been subtly opposing the Thayan necromancers, moved to Aglarond. Igor who felt he had no longer any reason to stay in Thay, left for Thesk.
1346 DR, Year of the Bloodbird
Igor had lived in Telflamm, Thesk, for almost a year and befriended a man named Razh'Pretsk who was a former Red Wizard of Necromancy and had now turned priest of Jergal. The two spent a lot of time discussing the sanctioned undead and their uses. Razh'Pretsk convinced Igor that fighting undead with undead is the most effective way. Sanctioned undead of the church. And so Igor began meddling with necromancy.
1347 DR, Year of the Bright Blade
When news reached him of Castle Perilous' rising in Vaasa and tales of the lich Zhengyi, he convinced Razh'Pretsk to move with him back to Damara to fight the hordes of the Witch King, particularly the undead. They spent a few ten-days in Heliogabalus, where they prepared and Igor caught up with his family (though keeping his meddling in necromancy secret as he knew so well the evil involved). They then moved the Bloodstone village in the Bloodstone Pass, which is the only link between Vaasa and Damara. Here they would spend time employing their own undead to battling with Zhengyi's forces.
1349 DR, Year of the Bridle
During an intense battle Razh'Pretsk were killed by a paladin of Ilmater who had noticed the undead commanded by the former Red Wizard and thought he served the Witch King. Igor who had been in another part of the battlefield, had seen the paladin slay his friend. Quickly realizing why, he ripped off his cloak – a gift from his sister – and fled the battlefield. He knew he might be implicated with a necromancer if the paladins identified them as friends and saw the evil in Igor as well, and he would rather be thought of as dead. The cloak would go back to his family, he thought, as a sign that he had died in battle.
He fled to Luskan, where he spent the rest of the year hiding in case his escape had not been convincing.
1350 DR, Year of the Morningstar
Igor moved to Neverwinter for a few months, then to Waterdeep for another few months. He found himself restless and without purpose. He decided then to travel the Sword Coast, looking for adventure, perhaps finding an adventuring group similar to the one Neira had been traveling with, dedicated to destroying undead.

Goals:
- True undeath – because he thinks becoming one will help him fight them. He thinks he sacrifices himself for the cause. Fight fire with fire.
- Turn away from evil again. He continues to use evil means to do good, thinking it is justifiable, even if he subconsciously wishes he would find the will to avoid these evil methods. On the other hand, depending on how he is influenced, he may start to embrace evil instead of turning away from it.
- Find a more specific purpose or cause to fight for.
- Find companions to the same purpose or cause.
- Envies elves for their longevity and agelessness. This is a result of his family's elven blood and him being the only true human.
- Views elves as a superior people, whose culture is important to protect. He will not hesitate to kill one in his way, however.
- He knows that his meddling with necromancy cannot be forgiven, but justifies it for the purpose of destroying other undead.
- His family does not know that he lives.
