Hiring Help (?)
It's been quite some time since I've last played in depth here, and the way things are done now, I'm sure, are different from the way they were done back then. My question is, how does one go about hiring an adventuring group to take me through areas I'd never survive on my own, now days? Do I need to rename a found bug shell with my "help wanted" ad and stand behind it outside the FAI? Or is the bulletin board still frequently perused? I suppose I could ask on the forum, but that seems to take away from the roleplay of it all.
Any polite suggestions?

Use the forums to post an IC call for help. Use the Elfsong Tavern section to post something along the lines of your guy calling out to the public from a soap box or a poster going up at the FAI advertising that your PC is hiring guides. Then people can post their reactions to it in the same thread.

Ashe would be more than happy to go along. He's always out for a little coin. Doesn't take much to get him interested.
I recomment setting up a sign at the FAI and putting a message on your scry to get attetion of people not in FAI.

Sounds good
I'll give that a try.
But before I jump into trusting my character's life in others hands, what is the current status with the player-pool now in place concerning leaving a fallen fellow behind?
To clarify, I play perma-death. Always have. The way I play is that unless Jorn is raised, however it's done (and I never call for help), he is dead forever. Crash and reset deaths do not count. Jorn has died once, and with a legitimate reason was raised without following the rules I set for being raised again (and is now part of his story); he made it to level 30. Now that he's returned, and has been RCRed, going from level 15 and up, I still play perma-death. So, I really would not feel comfortable going off with a bunch of kids that will leave his body behind, simply because they feel that death has no consequence, and expect everyone else to play that way.
What is the thought on this now?

I imagine it depends on the players. I have never been deliberately left behind in the 2.5 years I've been here. I'm guessing if you are paying folks to escort you, they will raise you. I know I would.

Yeah, I would say like mrieder79 that characters are generally decent enough. Set some conditions when you hire them and it should be good, especially if you talk to them a bit first.

Unless OFC you hire the wrong crowd. Not all characters are sweetness and light. I know there's a few I cross the road to avoid.

Alright then. So, what's the going rate these days for guides?

Re: Hiring Help (?)
There isn't really a 'going rate'. Many times you can find people around your own level to simply party with, w/o having to pay them. If you are paying them, I'd say it'd be something to negotiate in game. I myself have never seen anyone left unraised unless they were partying alone and ended up logging for w/e reason prior to being found/raised.. and more often than not, finding a group is simple enough... Another thing to consider is prior to actually hunting, you can also offer the party you're with 'compensation for raising you, should you fall'. I'm sure that would further their intensive to raise you and be a wise insurance.

I once hired an epic toon for 200 gold I believe...?Yawgnor wrote:Alright then. So, what's the going rate these days for guides?
People seem to eagerly take chances to RP, so the gold doesn't seem to matter much.

Re: Hiring Help (?)
Karl, the mighty Artificer of Gond, is for hire most of the time. His rate may seem high at 1000 gp per day. But it really depends on the situation. If it involves a lower level player character the initial sum may only be 500 gp and it won't actually be per ingame day. After all, I'm hiring out Karl only to have fun RPing with others and the gp isn't that important to me OOCly.
So if you ever see Karl, try and hire him if you need a bodyguard or (silent) guide!
Also, you could try hiring help both IG and on the forum. Both ways have always worked for me.

Ah yes, Karl. Jorn remembers buying a wonderfully maintained set of full plate (+4) off from him years back. I'll certainly keep an eye out for him.

If it means adventure, Ashe would probably be in it for nothing but a share of the loot.

Cranston is a fair tracker and I am always in it for the rp if you don't mind slow going (stealth) and constant military style instructions like 'halt' or '3 our 4 around the next corner' and stopping occasionally while he studies tracks.
