Background:
A first son from clan Floatstone—a rare breed on Northern Coast dwarves known for their seafaring history...and their ability to swim! One-Eye goes by this alias...earned is a very real manner, though the story from which his eye was lost is ever changing. "I ain't be a growing' it till me gets me eye back! " is a typical response he gives to other dwarves that question his stubble-only face...a face, in fact, that is rather handsome...for a dwarf. His seriousness about regaining his eye is prominent in his personality.
Recent history is such: One-Eye was first-mate of the vessel Stone Bow, destroyed in 1321 by the dragon Old White Death. All of his clan aboard this vessel were killed, and he carries the burden of being possibly the last male Floatstone (this is his belief, but the truth is unknown). Since the devastation of the Stone Bow and his sworn oath as first-mate to protect the clan/crew, in order to recover a sense of self worthiness, One-Eye has traveled over the recent decades all the way south to The Shining Sea, to The Shaar, and back...collecting maps and working negotiations were his skill best suited any Captain of the Seas that would make use of it. His clan's Wanderer philosophy—one of two contrasting viewpoints of modern Shield Dwarves—supported his need to grow his knowledge and secure his future desires. As he reached his 100 year, this exact year...One-Eye settled upon the Sword Coast and Western Heartlands region of Baldur's Gate, where it has been rumored many adventurers and dwarves have taken residence.
Goals:
In this region, One-Eye looks to negotiate the acquisition of wealth, through commerce and adventuring, with any guild or clan that falls into his path.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
- One-Eye follows the dogma of Vergadain...but the ways of Abbathor has played a role in his past.
- One-Eye is the remaining son of the seafaring clan Floatstone, first-mate of the vessel Stone Bow, destroyed in 1321 by the dragon Old White Death. The Floatstone Clan supported the philosophy of the Wanderers, and commanded a small fleet of whaling and merchant vessels from Luskan to Neverwinter, and running goods all the way to Mirabar (where the Floatstone Clan was originally situated). With the destruction of the Stone Bow, and the possible loss of all the male kinsman of his clan, One-Eye must make a choice—one day—to join into another clan, or begin the process of continuing the lineage. The latter would most likely begin with a return to Mirabar, and an end to his adventuring life...but the concerns for wealth and knowledge pull against the oaths he bore to his clan. He thus lives his life torn between two futures.
