Cavestalker with Surface Race

I am currently playing a shield dwarf on the surface and he has a level split of 17 ranger/2 cavestalker. I love that you get a message whenever you enter a cave that allows the use of your cavestalker abilities however I have found some inconsistencies. So far in the minotaur cave and the hag cave the hide in plain sight ability is not functioning. I have tested it several times and I can walk around in stealth without being detected but as soon as combat starts I cannot re-enter stealth effectively. The monsters still continue to attack.

It doesnt work currently, yes. It is a known issue and the reason why it is happening has been identified. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Ahh ok. Sorry for repeating the issue then.

No problem. The devs are not machines, so reminding something is not bad.

Don't worry, its appreciated that you take the time to report it. You don't know whether its a known issue or not, or if its been forgotten for example.

I was told cavestalker wasn't supposed to work on the surface.

It works in surface underground areas, the bonuses are halved but you do get them. I think the ability description mentions this correctly but I haven't verified it. Any natural interior area will work I believe.
You gain the full bonus when you go into Underdark areas. Whether or not half bonuses are worth the investment depends on you and your character. They're still pretty handy I imagine.

I don't think the bonuses are working in all surface underground areas. They worked for my cavestalker in the bandit caves north of BG, but they didn't switch on in the goblin mines north of Beregost for some reason.
I'll be trying out some other interiors as I go to see where the bonuses don't apply, then update my findings here.

I don't think the mines are considered a 'natural' underground area... kind of like the difference between an outside city area vs. a forest.

One would think the goblin mines are more subterranean than some cave in a field filled with dirty hobos!
The sharpteeth orcs caves didn't apply the cavestalker bonuses either, and the lower level is actually underground

Next up on my list is the cloakwood mines and the gibberling caves/cavern below, then the hilltop ruins. This should be interesting...
