Background: Gunnar lived his youth in Phlan with his parents, his father being a local guardsman, and his mother a waitress in a local inn. As the city saw much conflict from various elements such as monsters and war, one day his father came home heavily wounded, on a whim they decided it was time to move - they packed their belongings and left.

Due to the father's injuries they did not manage to get far, and decided to stop in the first town they met. They lived at an inn the first few weeks, as his father recovered, and his mother would work as a waitress there. His father never fully recovered from his previous battle, and was unable to do hard physical work - he got a job helping train and instruct new guards of the town, though it did not pay well. Gunnar being a large strong kid for his age stepped up and began to work at nearby farms and as a woodsman. The little family lived there happily for a few years. One day their town was attacked by raiding orcs and Gunnar's father was forced to take up arms and help defend the town, not many survive the encounter, including his father. At this point Gunnar had turned thirteen and would begin to train to be a solider himself.

Gunnar did not take the death of his father horribly, as he had always been taught that life would not be easy, and he knew his father died doing a good thing. His mother took the death hard, but continued to help provide for her only son. They would continue to live in the inn's guest room as long as his mother worked there, and so years would passed.

At an early age of fiftheen Gunnar offically joined the town guardsmen, as he had grown big and strong early for his age, much like his father, not to mention they needed new guards to help defend against future attacks. Three years passed as Gunnar continued to help protect the town from outside dangers. One year a tough winter arrived and food supply was low, many fell sick from the cold, and many died from hunger, including his mother. With the loss of his last family Gunnar made a habbit of drinking, and during this he would come to know his future wife, like her mother she was also a waitress, and a year younger than himself. During their first two years together they had two sons.

They remained in the little town and after ten years Gunnar became the leader of the town Guard. Remembering the fate of his father, he decided to teach his two sons to wield weapons early in their lives. Not longer after this the town once again came under siege from orcs, the same tribe that attacked and killed his father. The town guard would assemble and fight the orcs, but this time they were heavily outnumbered and after a couple of hours the town fell to the orcs. Seeing the orcs trample through the guards and into the town, he abandoned his post to try and save his family. When he finally made it to their home his sons were holding off the orcs, defending their mother, though it was truly a moment of fear and despair, Gunnar felt proud seeing his sons defend their mother. Even though he had finally arrived the orcs were still attacking him outside, and he was unable to come to his family's aid, and thus they fell in combat. Gunnar himself was overrun and taken into captivity by the orcs. They starved him and he was pitted against the upcomming orcs of the tribe.

One night we woke up to the noise of fighting, and he would look around searchingly for the combat, except there was none. Confused he looked around in his cage, and much to his surprise, someone or something had left a battleaxe next to him in his cage. Hastily, while he still had the darkness, he would use the axe to pry the wooden lock open and with much effort defeat a nearby guard.

He made his way back to the village, and with much grief and sadness he would burry hisfamily once again. After this he comitted his life to his savior Tempus and dedicated his life fully to battle and combat. As an adventurer he experienced a great many things....
