Hello,
I was just wondering what will happen when someone who does not have any AC bonus of a certain type and waring an item with mali on that type?

eg not wearing armor should be 0 AC of armor and wearing another item with -x AC (armor).

Will the specific AC go lower then 0 or is there nothing to loose then?
What about other types of armor? Has anyone ever tried something like this?

theres a coupletimes with ac

there is base 8 bonus

Full plate
8 ac base
1 max dex bonus (you get need 1 dex modifer to get this, which is 13 dex)
---------------------
9 ac

then then is enchantment bonus

Full plate +4
8 ac base
1 max dex bonus
+4 (ac armor)
-------------------
13 ac

also you can get the (ac armor bonus from spells like mage armor, feats)
also you can the the (ac armor bonus from gloves mostly that say +ac armor bonus

there are 5 types of ac
Armor - does not stack with itself
Shield - does not stack with itself
Dodge -stack with its self
Deflection- does not stack
Natural - does not stack with itself

Armor and shield have base ac

Thank you, but I already know about these facts. (btw: dexbonus+1 is at 12 dex and 13 dex)

I am interested in AC decrease.
so if you equip an item with AC decrease.

Will this decrease take effect even if you do not have any AC of this certain type? Or is 0 AC of a type an lower limit?

Yep it will apply. Its an AC penalty and will always apply. So if a wizard has +6 Armor AC from Improved mage armor spell and they pick up a dagger, and equip it, and it turns out to have a -2 Armor AC curse on it, their Armour AC will be reduced to 4.

When the spell wears off, their Armor AC bonus will then be reduced to -2.

Thank you!

And this should be true for other types of Armor too right? Like shield/natural/dodge?

Yes, all AC penalties apply while the item is equipped. Merely having the item in your inventory (even a cursed one) will not give any penalties though.

I believe some penalties may be able to be offset by using Death Ward on yourself before equipping the item which has the penalty on it, but I'm not 100% sure of this.
