Background:
Diero's mother, Kerri Kross, a Chondathan who met his father, Anton Calabra, during business in the trade-city Iljak across the Vilhon Reach. They practically fell in love when their eyes met, though Kerri was an indentured servant to the Chondathan merchant. Anton concluded his business in Iljak, though did not leave without paying off Kerri's debt to the Chondathan merchant. Kerri did not wish to stay in Iljak anymore and pleaded for Anton to take her with him. She had nothing left in Iljak, no family or anchors there. From there, they grew close and ended up marrying shortly after back in Alaghôn.

Anton's family did not receive the news of the marriage well, and wished that he had married into a family that would grow the wealth and power of the Calabra's. Anton and Kerri would both ignore the Calabra's wishes, to the extent of barely spending time in the city's merchant district. They both would go out on business as Kerri's interest in the mercantile business grew and ended up helping Anton in any negotiations.

Some time after several business trips and vacations out into the Turmic country side, Kerri would find out that she was with child. Anton would bury a chest in the name of Chauntea, seeking fortune for his child and prayed to Tymora to smile upon his child. About nine months later, something would go amiss as during labor, Anton and Kerri were met with an ultimatum. Save the life of their child or save the life of Kerri. Before they both could decide, the choice was made by the Gods it would seem as Kerri would fall unconscious to the pains and unable to awaken during labor. The priestesses would work to try and save both lives, though unfortunately they could only save the life of Diero.

Anton's spirit was shattered, yet took solace in that he still had his son. Although his resolve would chip away everytime he would look at Diero, as his deep blue eyes always reminded Anton of his beloved Kerri. However though, Diero's father would close down his shop and concentrate on raising the young Diero. By the time Diero was at the age of seven, the Calabra's thought it was time that Anton took back up the family business and practically forced Anton to remarry. Eventually Anton would grow close to his new wife Balama, and Diero would have a sister when he was eleven years old.

By the time Diero was fifteen, he had grown a solid interest in the family business, having been helping in the shop with his sister, Selise. Diero wished that his father would take him with him on his business trips though. He had a love for the business and a yearning to see the world. When he was seventeen, he had gone with his father to Cormyr and was amazed by the sights of Suzail and Arabel. Gaining greater respect from his father, despite getting into trouble a couple times; once with the daughter of a merchant. When Diero was twenty years old almost twenty-one, he had traveled to many places in and around Turmish. He had seen Cormyr plenty, the various city states of the Emerald Way, and had been to the City of Serpents to all the way to the capital of Sespech, Ormpetarr.

A couple months before Diero's twenty-first birthday, he and his father had concluded their business in Iljak. They were traveling through the streets on their way to the docks for their voyage back to Alaghôn. They were almost to the docks when there was yelling and shouting erupting from the docks. They and their bodyguards tried to make haste and slip passed the commotion, though they were cut off. Once an arrow hit Anton in the chest and was brought down to his knees, they knew they had been caught in a trade war.

Their two bodyguards tried to protect their charges, moving them off the street. Diero watched his father slowly dying from his wound as one of their bodyguards was taken down by a mob of would-be soldiers. The other would stay by his charges' side, yet urged that they needed to move and gave Diero a longsword. Diero helped his father to his feet and they slowly tried to circumvent the fighting. Though again, they were caught up as their bodyguard fought off three fighters and was able to take out two of them. A fourth would take down the bodyguard however, stabbing him in the back. As Diero watched in horror and fear, he knew that they were next. He took up his sword and tried to fight off the two fighters.

Amidst the desperate and frantic fight for his life, Diero would be knocked unconscious from a blow to the back of the head. When he awoke, Diero found himself laying on a cot amongst healers in grey robes. He demanded that they to tell him what happened but they told him to keep quiet and rest. Restless and stubborn, the healers put Diero under with a spell and forced him to rest. During that time under the spell, Diero would have many vivid dreams but uncertain of their meaning.

A day later, Diero would have fully recovered from his non-lethal wounds and was approached by two healers and a man donning steel armor. The Helmite, Watchknight Evandur Tallstag, would tell Diero that he was under the charge and care of the Temple of the Vigilant Guard, and that they were unable to save his father's life. The docks had been burned in the trade war, and that if Diero wished, he could either journey elsewhere or stay, and learn the ways of combat and the Vigilant One but all for a price. Evandur assured Diero that they had recovered most of his belongings as the Temple's templars had stopped the would-be soldiers from slaying the two and brought them to the temple to be watched over. With that, Diero accepted to learn under the tutelage of the Vigilant Guard and sent word back to his home in Turmish.

For the next four years, Diero had done well in his learning and his frivolous behavior of his youth had been tempered with the hard teachings of Helm. Despite learning the ways of the blade, he had taken a liking to the heavy crossbow and during that time, Diero had taken up charges, escorting them up and down the Emerald Way. Returning to the Temple in Iljak one day after completing a job, Diero made a donation of his earnings to the Temple and determined that it was time for him to return to Alaghôn.

His homecoming be short however after reuniting with his step-mother and half sister, as Diero would tell them that he was off to perform his duties as an aspiring Vigilant Guard of Helm. He would stop by the local Chauntea shrine and bury his coin as a gift to the Golden Goddess. From there he would take up a job as a guard for a caravan and Diero would spend the next three years out on the road. Shortly after his twenty-eighth birthday, he was headed for Baldur's Gate.
Goals: Earn favor of the Vigilant One and other Helmites, performing his duty and oath as a devout Helmite.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

-Has had dreams/visions from Helm.
-He is like any other Faerunian paying homage to all gods although his Lord is Helm. (RP reason behind Man-at-Arms)
-Never truly found out the start of the trade war in Iljak and who was to blame for the events that lead to his father's death.
-Open-Ended Character, willing to see where his RP on BG takes him.
