Rangers and Llolth

I met a drow last night in the underdark, someone new to the server and he said that he chose chaotic evil, yet could not follow Llolth for his dieiety. I haven't tested it (probably should have before posting). But is there a reason Rangers could not worship Llolth?

Unfortunately Lolth is not one of the deities a ranger can select.
In part because Lolth is no nature deity I suspect, regardless of her spider (Spider portfolio) association.
Same with Eilistraee who is arguably a nature deity (Moon, Hunting portfolios) but still does not allow rangers.
Regardless of the 2nd edition claim of the cleric/ranger priestessess.
I am convinced there are quite a few other deities with the same issue, as has been posted about before.

Lorewise, most gods allow rangers. Rangers do not have to follow nature gods like druids do. But for some weird reason, Obsidian saw fit to restrict ranger deities to the same as druid deities. Even more weirdly, we currently have a few quite clearly not nature gods on the nature god list despite this. A druid of Shevarash would be ridiculous, but mechanically you can do that now.
Anyways, it is apparently easy to fix this so rangers are more open to other gods. We've even discussed it as QC and found no issues with it mechanically. But it's not been changed yet and I don't know why.

Hi,
Eilistraee DOES allow rangers, and it isn't only AD&D Second Edition, it is also D&D 3.0 and D&D 3.5.
This is something that I have been asking to be fixed on this server for almost a year and a half...
and it is a VERY EASY fix for a nwn2 server, it's one change in one place in one text file called nwn2_deities.2da
Demi-human Deities (2e) p. 17
Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (3e) p. 241
Faiths and Pantheons (3.5) p. 23
Faiths and Pantheons (3.5) p. 205
Champions of Valor (3.5) p. 30

Well, we have been asking for more years than that Grymhild.
The server does not support eilistraeean rangers, so far.
2nd edition has precedence before 3rd afaik but good post there Grymhild.
Lets hope we get lucky.

We are discussing this one (and ranger deities generally) backstage again; we did actually discuss it late last year but it fell through the cracks.

Any chance you can add That Harr? His life mentions he has druids. Also I believe Mathammor Duin has Rangers. Us Dwarves need some nature love too you know!

We are only considering rangers at the moment!
If you want a druid deity considered PM us with some lore quotations and we can take a look

Well dont forget that mechanically you may have to choose a from the deity list for Ranger, but that means nothing RP wise what your character can and can not worship. The world is full of Polytheist and its pretty common for a person to worship service to multiple gods at once.

Take a seat and put your feet up and join the queue of people who have asked for this again and again and..well you get the picture.
I asked a while back:
http://www.bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=43600
You can see the answer I got and the total lack of a answer to the question why said answer was no. Do a search and you will see this topic comes up about once a month with usually no answer from the staff to why they wont move from their present position on Rangers.
We are discussing this one (and ranger deities generally) backstage again; we did actually discuss it late last year but it fell through the cracks.
Considering I got told no in that topic last year I very much doubt any falling or cracks were involved.

True
Unless ....
- you are a cleric(or fs) / ranger
- want to rp a martial branch of the church ( ex. Eilistraeen Darksong Knight)
- want the full benefits of Recitation
- want the dm to be able to see who your pc worships - this can be VERY important

Well doubt all you like, but it was something that we discussed some time after that post and then did not move forward to a final discussion on.
You did not get a no in that thread, you got a "in the past we said no", which was the case.
Why did various staff members say no in the past? Different staff have different opinions and there were some lore based objections based on a reading of sources cited.
For what its worth I voted for it then and will now. The staff is not, however, a unitary hive mind.

Except:
- Clerics can give service to other gods, in respect of the gods connections to eachother. Like Tyr and Illmater
- Favor Souls dont have to worship a god. Their powers are forced on them. Most worship, yes, but not all.
- Rangers can worship all of the nature gods at once, as all aspects of nature can be respected and given service.
- True, but Clerical rule applies here to
- Never fiddled with Recitation, no clue here
- You can let the DM know, via PMs, Tells, forum posts that the character specifically worships this list of Gods, and the mechanical God you chose is the highest God on that list.
Remember, Gods get power from their worshipers. Only some Gods frown upon someone worshiping multiple Gods. In the minds of certain Gods, the more the merrier.
