Still experimenting with character...

Been playing Osmo now for a while and have been having fun. Problem is that due to me getting involved in certain rp and events people are starting to think that this version is going to be my permanent one. In truth I am still experimenting and may make major changes in the future.

It was not my intention to become so well known and type-cast so rapidly. Don't get me wrong I have been enjoying the rp immensely and will continue with it but I want people to understand that I have not necessarily committed yet to my current role. It may still be a while before I get the character and his allegiances just right.

It was my mistake to get so caught up in the rp before I knew for sure what I wanted to play. I should have remained aloof from server events but one thing led to another and well... it got carried away. Again I have enjoyed the rp and will try to continue it but Osmo may not always have the same class or background in the future. Just a heads up incase something major like choice of class or deity gets changed.

Apologies for getting everyone's hopes up.

Yeah prob going to change class and deity... Cleric is nice but on this server it does not really work well without the ability to melee and no use of armor. There simply are not enough spells to protect from melee damage and with no damage mitigation spells and low ac i die constantly. Will still rp him as a priest but he will likely be a warlock or sorc and the deity will likely be some kind of fiend or lovecraft entity.

If you don't want to use armor on a cleric you need either a sacred fist build or a caster cleric with 3-4 levels of monk.

Nothing stopping you from using armour.

On the other hand, as Thids points out, you can make a pretty decent cleric with no armour by adding 4 levels of monk. Put in loads of wisdom and go for DC spells (with spell focus evocation or necromancy).

On the other hand, if you want to melee stuff, put on armour and a shield, cast divine power and faceroll the server.

As a cleric you can eventually cast stone body which is 10/- dr and crit immune. Cast freedom of movement before stone body and you will not incur the movement penalty.

It sounds like maybe your RP so far has an element of not using armor, because there is no mechanical reason that a cleric cannot wear armor. Perhaps a solution is to play with the armor appearances and find one that looks suitably like clothing to afford you some protection while still providing protection. I know some of the chain shirt appearances look a little bit like clothes. Not sure about the others. You might even be able to make a custom one. I know there are mithral fullplates modeled to look like the person isn't wearing armor, so making armor look like clothes is possible.

Also, if it fits your RP, you can RCR to a cleric that has plant domain. That way you get Barkskin which maxes out at +5 natural AC (I think). That is 2 more than you the +3 amulets that are most widely available.

There are also cleric domains that give stoneskin. Unless it has been changed for this server, I believe they are: earth, magic, strength, and good.

Some of the more experienced cleric players can probably speak to this.
