An elven warrior is seen leaving a message below the auction notice. It reads as follows: "I will offer you the sum of 30,000 gold for your gargoyle boots. Signed Uurad."

Uurad raises his bid to 40,000 gold for the boots.

Lelande examines the boots.

"I recommend holding onto these boots, Acolyte Abbot. However, if you wish to exchange them for coin, I will submit a bid of fifty bags of coin."

"If you keep the boots for yourself, it would allow me to conserve the energy of my wand," Lelande observes.

Lelande considers her words. " . . . Understood, Acolyte Abbot. I will withdraw my bid."

An older warrior approaches with a relaxed and good-natured smile. "I would like to bid sixty trade bars for those boots. Call me Ken."

The elven warrior Uurad returns to The Friendly Arm Inn to check on the auction. Seeing he has been outbid, he raises his own bid to 70,000 gold.

Ken's smile widens, and he nods in acknowledgment of the elven warrior's bid.

"I will bid ninety trade bars."

Ken's smile falters for a bit as he considers the rapidly rising price tag of the boots. After a few seconds, he shrugs. His smile appears again.

"I will bid one-hundred and twenty-five trade bars." He chuckles and shakes his head, as if hardly believing himself. "Look at me, spending coin like a noble or bureaucrat."

Ken's smile fades again and he looks disconcerted. "I find unfriendly eyes watching me no matter where I go, it seems." He sighs a resigned sigh.

Ken smiles and nods. "Excellent. I am happy to hear it."
