Halsey appears to be stuck in a perpetual state of being lost. His observant eyes never do stay in one position for long, even when locked in conversation. Though the colour of those wandering eyes is unremarkable, being dusky brown, there is a scholarly brilliance within them. His clothes seem to be practically focused and not very fashionable as a result. While far from a model in the right light he could be considered attractive in a smart way. He is happy in the company of others, and often is jovial in manner. He was raised to be a perfectionist by his father; as such he is unable to leave anything incomplete. The bitter outlook of life he once had has faded to optimism.
It is rare to for him to speak of his faith. His devotion comes through his research, and action rather than word. More commonly he speaks of Tymora than Oghma. His studies into mathematics were on the lesser well defined applied topics. He has a strong understand of probability and natural variation in the real world, which leads him to often speaking to Tymora to shift those odds to his favour.
Fields of research
The nature of mathematics, analysis of the natural world and processes through mathematical point of view. Including subsections on mechanical processes.
The longevity of the nonhuman races, research of what are the anatomical determinants of why elves, dwarves and other races have longer lifespans over humans. With this, study of the human anatomy and their differences to the other races. Subsections on deformities, and other inexplicable medical occurrences, such as maternal death.
Optimization of games, study of card and dice based games, their plausible outcomes and best courses of action under circumstance.
Social experiments, mostly kept private.
Along with many other impromptu experiments, and pulls of interest.
Background
Halsey grew up with his elder brother, Norris, under the shadow of their father, Adalbert Hayes, a renown scientist for his time. His mother had lost her life in childbirth of Halsey. High expectations were laid upon the boys to carry on their father’s legacy. The bar was always raised an inch taller as they themselves grew in height. Adalbert only showed affection when those expectations were met. This led to Halsey and his brother growing very competitive of one another. Norris being the older of the boys often used that to his advantage, blaming Halsey of his faults and stealing his moments of brilliance and claiming them as his own. It did not take Halsey all too long to grow to hate his brother. Adalbert did show some resentment towards Halsey, seeing him at partial fault of his wife's death so he often was biased in favour of Norris.
This competition would continue even into their adulthood even after finishing their studies and both earning their doctorates. Around women Halsey had always been slightly awkward, he could understand advanced mathematics but was left oblivious when it came to the matter of women. One woman however, Felicia, was able to break through that and Halsey even found comfort in speaking to her. She always found his ramblings about odd topics amusing and even enjoyed his company. Although he wanted to, he waited many years building up the courage to start something more. He spent most of his savings upon a beljuril to which Felicia’s turquoise eyes matched which he intended to eventually use to fashion into a ring for her. When he went to ask her on a date he was struck to find her already asked by his brother. Years would pass and eventually Halsey decided he couldn’t stand to be in Neverwinter any longer and make his way southward.

Misc Facts
- He feels most at comfort within his notebook. Writing, numbers, pictures he can understand, people he can often not. When he find himself in an uncomfortable position he is often to pull out his notebook and occupy himself.
- He holds onto a Beljuril, the same one he intended to eventually use to propose to Felicia.
- Though slightly awkward when it comes to women he grows a lot more confident with a few ales down his mouth.
- Because of his brother he is somewhat wary to working with other scholars, fearing they will take claim of his work like Norris did. That being said, he seeks a research assistant, someone to help inspire new idea in him.
- He was pressured in pursuing his doctorate in mathematical topics to carry on his father’s legacy, his interest however are held more deeply in the biological world.
