Question concerning a certain feat.

Unread post by Tenebrosity »

Hello there,

I'm currently making myself a character and I'd like to know if it's a waste to invest into " Craft Wondrous Items, Brew Potion ". I believe we need to get recipe and I haven't played on the server yet to know if there's any of it and I wouldn't want to invest into something pointless :P. I've been browsing on the forum for information about it, but I couldn't find anything, or maybe it escape my eyesight.

Thanks in advance :)

The only crafting feats with limited use on the server are Craft Scroll, Craft Wand, and Brew Potion. Of the three, Craft Scroll and Craft Wand are probably the more useful.

Brew Potion could see some limited use, although I would have to look up the crafting costs. For many potions, it might well be cheaper to buy them in a shop than to craft them for yourself. If we ever release the "Master Alchemist" PRC, potion crafting PCs may find themselves more in demand.

Craft Wondrous Item would be useless to you in a purely mechanical sense. It has some potential, but very limited, use as an RP feat. But generally speaking I probably wouldn't take it as a new player. It'd be more for a dedicated "crafter" RP character, since it would see no in-game use beyond (at best) maybe convincing a DM to let you have minor RP advantages in figuring out what an artifact does, or perhaps crafting a minor, unique item once in a very blue moon.

Keep in mind that some potions, such as potions of Improved Mage Armor, Mirror Image and Invisibility cannot be bought in shops and are thus highly valued by non-UMD characters who are more than willing to pay the higher prices needed to make them.

And there are master lists for prices (thanks to the work of other players). Please PM NeonAvenger (character Maddy Thunderkeg) if you want to benefit from some of that. I can give you my incomplete Wand price list as well if you want it.

Thank you for the quick answers. So Brew Potion, and I guess Craft Alchemy isn't all wasted?

That will help me in my character creation without screwing up too much.

Actually, around the game world are little lootable plants and things that make Craft Alchemy checks (some are survival checks) and, if successful, you get interesting things from them, from alchemist fire to healing leaves to things which cast stoneskin one time. Its not too bad at all.

Craft Alchemy has a limited use collecting herbs and other minor items on a handful of area maps, but I wouldn't max it out unless you're doing so for an RP reason.

If you plan to RP a serious alchemist, though, then high Alchemy and the Brew Potion feat will be a good roleplaying combination, and may win you extra hints in DM events if you use your skills effectively.

Just don't take any of the crafting skills thinking they will have a dramatic impact on your actual gameplay experience.

Lock: I haven't been keeping very abreast of developments on the QC side of the house, so I'm not sure if it's ready to go in or not. Last I recall, there were some balance concerns -- and I do not know whether they were ever resolved.

We're making progress with staging updates, however, and once we're over the hiccups we do intend to start pushing forward with some of the projects we've had sitting in the wings (to potentially include PRCs).

The balance concerns have to do with the potions that the Master Alchemist Prc can create. What level spells can be brewed as potion, at what caster level and at what DC ( if any )
Mendel - Ranger, Harper, Villi | Tahlaer of the High Forest | Nikos Berenicus - Initiate of the Mirari | Efialtes Rodius - Blood Magus | Olaf Garaeif - Dwarven Slayer

Spelling mistakes are purposely entered for your entertainment! ChatGPT "ruined" the fun :(
