Epic areas

So... ...lore of DnD is not quite my forte, neither does it interest me much, except... ..I really loved the lore of the higher levels. How gods attain power. I really enjoyed mask of the betrayer for this reason. It dealt with astral planes, the fugue, and godhood.

In bgtscc, not much epicness lore to play.

I have heard some suggest a separate server. At first I thought no-way, especially for underdark/surface.

But now I am thinking, it might be neat if there were a second server for epics, that dealt more with the upper end lore and whatever little skirmishes are happening between the gods out there on the further planes.

You could still stay in the regular world if you chose, but basically, once you ported to the epic's world, going back to the sword coast would take DM assistance for certain choice events.

Of course there would be tons of things to sort out. Like I think then XP progression would need to be slowed on the surface, so level 20 meant more, and epic meant epic, and also, the underdark would be more accessible around level 17 or so.

Wouldn't this serve to separate the player base? Not like there's many players now and I certainly wouldn't want our server to cap out at 20 or fewer players like some other servers. Plus wouldn't the epic server demand much more dm attention?

Oh yeah and to further complicate it let's slow down the incredibly slow level progression from 20-30 some more as if needing the same amount of XP from 20-30 as you gathered for 1-20............Maybe having more of the Sword Coast put in to our already enormous server with areas that are more suitable for a pack of 30s instead of a solo 30 would be more in line. Which is easy to do since you need only populate some of the empty doors and add some things to say like the HIgh Moores. They could use a real dungeon making it worth the travel to fight undead vampires........

The high moors could use something to spruce it up. Even a small dungeon atop the pyramid would be nice.

Durlags tower could use an overhaul, maybe put something in the upper levels worth the while?

From my understanding, RP wise, no one is higher than a L20 PC or something. No one reaches godlike power, persay.

I am voting to leave leveling alone.

The server would not necessarily cap out at 20. If one wanted to stay until 30, they could. I see it more like once you start progressing to the outer realms, you cant go back unless it is really important. I mean, why would a demigod go back to fight on the sword coast, unless he/she had a great reason, when he/she has taken part in crafting the future of higher planes and the struggles of Gods?

I don't know if this is sarcasm, but basically, if someone stayed on the sword coast until level 29, (instead of progressing to the outer realms), they would find the blase level progression they find today.

If they move on to the outer planes, they would actually find areas with 25xp per kill, etc.

It also could be like the maze that separates the underdark and the surface, (which I have yet to even see, I think). Something difficult and time consuming to traverse. I'd just like to see a system where moving back and forth between the outer realms and the sword coast would not be easy. Including choices at the nexus and teleporting.

I'm all for redesigning some of the areas to make them more appealing for xp hungry visitors. Most of them simply could use bigger and more frequent spawns (or scaling with the party size). Also, some chests here and there and maybe big parties will have some fun outside of the serpent hills. The other option would be rewarding people for taking down less numerous but stronger enemies (Forest of Wyrms comes to my mind, 20 xp per a dragon is such a disgrace to the dragonkind).

Yes, bigger or more frequent spawns in some corners of those huge maps like Thundar's Ride and High Moors as an alternative to "we are all happy family" grinding at xvarts.

These areas are good hunting grounds if you are alone but still to few enemies to make it a good place to stay for long.

Would also like to see an alternative to the "we are all happy family" grinding at foothills.

Not sure what this could be.. ogres come to my mind but those places somehow cannot compare. It wouldn't hurt to have yet another simple cave with ogres, preferably closeby to the other. Loot is not even required and empty caves are enough in the area, too.

So everybody else is looking for better upper level grind areas, I am proposing it be implemented, for the cost of not being able to return easily to the sword coast. Once you leave, you become caught up in the struggles of greater beings, and returning to the sword coast is like a level 15 returning to the gibberling cave. You may need to do it, say if a war in the planes spreads from there, but it is more kind of pointless. You have bigger fish to fry.

Perhaps there could even be a one time quest, required for passage into the other realms. I don't know, I tend to think there should be no auction in the outer realms either.

I suppose more frequent spawns might be feasible in larger maps.
