Leveling while solo?
Hey everyone,
I recently began playing on this server and was having a good time with the party I had found upon first logging in and accepting a few quests. Everything was going fine until my party had to disband due to most of them having to head off for the night but, I decided to press on and when I did I suddenly found myself dying left and right and losing all of the xp I had gained from quests through having to respawn.
I've since been trying to find a way to gain a few levels solo but it's been proving to be nearly impossible. (I'm level 5 at the moment.) Is there even anyway for someone my level to play on this server by themselves or am I forced to just stand around Baldur's Gate just to find a party to go gain xp with? I have no problems playing with others but, I would like to actually be able to play and gain levels when there is no one around to party with.

Re: Leveling while solo?
It's more about what build you have and playing to your strengths, as wel as picking the right area to level in.
What build do you have and where do you play?
I believe there's a list of areas where to level, at what level. But it's somewhere in the tips and tricks area of the forum and I don't have time to look for it.

Level 5 solo you should be fine going through the kobold ruins outside BG. The gibberling caves might be difficult depending on your build though.

Re: Leveling while solo?
I was thinking the same thing back the day i first logged in the server.
It's really fun here, but can i solo xp?
Well, i never answered this question actually, in the end it didn't matter. You will be able to find someone to team up with, and the deaths you are having are not due to the lack of a group but mostly due to the lack of experience of what (And where) you are killing and when you should leave.
As the guys said prior to me, after you are familiar with the areas, soloing is all about your build and playin it right. Really few builds can't solo.
Have fun in BG, and really do try to meet new peeps, everyone wants a party !
P.S. South of Farmlands, after a big long bridge to the right is a hill thats where chad is pointing you too, i agree. Don't venture too deep! ( You might have to die there in order to never die there
)

Re: Leveling while solo?
A big part of not dying comes down to ac, especially in the low levels, but as a level 5, kobolds is not bad, the undeads, when you go in a straight line from where you exit Baldurs gate is not bad either, good for gold with the remains you can take to the old man.

Logan is a level 5 Fighter with an AC of 19 currently. I've been building him to eventually be a Weapon Master using Greatswords. I'm not sure where I could find those Kobolds though. I also have a few quests ready to be completed but I'm 100% on where I need to go other than one of them is near Beregost or even if I can travel anywhere near Beregost by myself. Any tips or guides would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind, there's no point in me even continuing to try to gain xp. I went to the gibberling caves and was doing fine until I ran out of potions and then I was dead yet again and losing all of the xp I had just gotten by being there. So, not only am I down 500xp. I don't even have enough gold to buy the amount of potions I would need to try and get any amount of xp back.

The best advice I can give is for your first character on bgtscc to be highly defensive. Like Dwarven defender or man at arms with a tower shield, eldritch knight in full plate etc. With 2 handed weapon master expect many deaths until you're rich.

Re: Leveling while solo?
Hm, if you start playing, a char like druid or cleric with summons and or companions might be the best way to go. Then when you have some xp, rcr and start with the char you really want to play.
A fighter shouldn't be a problem though, I rather think you got overconfident while adventuring in group, and now don't know where to go while being alone.
The kobolds are between the BG bridge and the bandits on the trade way, up a hill into the ruins. Which connects to the gibberlings eventually. But I wouldn't go too deep yet. And beware the traps in there.
And although he will become a twohanded weaponmaster, he can still use a sword and shield for the first levels or where AC is more important than AB and damage.

Re: Leveling while solo?
barkskin and mage armor potions from sorcerous sundries for you.
Even if you are a twohander guy it make sense to use a shield once in a while when crowded until you got the steam up.
ac19 is very low for a lv5, best advice would be to try to find or loot +1 and +2 ac stuff.

And do you have a fullplate on? if not fullplates are the best armor a str based fighter can ask for.

Envy you, Logan. The time when you just start the game and learn land and people and things, and everything is new and scary and unpredictable what it would be if one descend in that hole in the earth.. most precious time.
But if you don't like that, have a tip: explore when you just leveled up (on BG the devs were kind and you cannot loose level), then train in the area previously explored.

Re: Leveling while solo?
I don't even know where to start trying to get loot by myself. Every time I try to go and do something, I wind up dead. I don't know, I'm gonna keep bashing my head up against the wall and try to find something I can do to level myself but it doesn't seem like it's going to work.
Thanks for giving me tips on what I should be doing though.
