I am not who I RP to be

This is likely a good time to post this topic. Given that my current character has just scorned all her former friends and allies and vanished in to the north.
Simply put I am not who I RP to be. At times I feel that my "aggressive" RP style might offend or anger my fellow players. Please understand, I am only playing a role. The way my character acts towards you is in no way a reflection on you as a person, It is also not a reflection of the person I am. I am playing a role...
Part of the fun of this game is that we get to step outside of ourselves and be someone we are not. It was always a big part of the fun for me anyway. So if my character is treating you badly it does not mean I dislike you as a person. In fact it likely means I like your RP style very much and that is why I am giving you a hard time.
In the past, I may have gotten to caught up in my own RP to realize I may be badgering "trolling" a player. ( Laitae I'm looking at you Nroc remembers *wink* ) In truth I do not think this is a mistake I have made in a long time. However, A line of RP may have grown stale to one player while it is still very amusing to another. In that regard if you are bothered by (any) of my character's presence or agitated by there RP, Tell me. My feelings wont be hurt I promise.
If you wish me to stop RP with your character period as I heard today, I will do my best to avoid you. However this is a small world in a way. Do not expect me to drop all RP and history of RP when we may run in to each other. This also goes for RP that may have been developed as guild RP. I will do the best to respect every ones wishes, Cause after all we are all here to have fun. I do not want to intrude on anyone's good time.
Best wishes to all the community,
Mac

It's surprising just how many people can't discern this. Baffling, even.
Probably a good idea to post this, yep...

The same problem with people not being able to differentiate an actor from the role he or she was/is playing.
I at least have no problem with you Mac, or your char. You added quite some rp lately. Well done.

I still love you Bella!, Sadly it can be hard to split the OOC with the IC. Topics like these are important to remind people that we are just playing a character.

Character separation... what's that!!?!??
Don't worry about it Mac. This is something that me and the "Jerk"(Jassin) have to deal with very often(there have even been times when I have even received tells from players asking me if I disliked them because of the way I RP my character towards theirs...

).
For example: One day I was walking across the bridge towards BG and another character "nodded" to mine. Being the anti-social prick that he is, and my character not knowing who the other was at all, I emoted "stares forward as he walks, seemingly content to not acknowledge you whatsoever"... which is an emote I've had macro'd for
well over a year(yes, my elf can be such a jerk that I've created macro's to convey it!). Lo and behold, two seconds later I get a tell from the other player saying "Did that make you feel good?", to which I replied, "It's just the way my character is! *smiley face*", which earned a response of "How sad", from the other player. Fortunately, I have learned the very valuable lesson of not giving a flying *bleep* if my characters standoff'ish nature offends other players OOC'ly. At the end of the day, we are only here to roleplay and
stay true to our characters.
Keep in mind that the server currently has a high percentage of RP-lite'ers, and some of those players are just not used to(or don't know how to) detaching their feelings from their characters, and thus are easily offended.

Ya know, funny thing is if folks just rp'd their IC reaction to Bela or Jassin everyone would have so much more fun. Kind of like the Tiefling or grey orc that appreciated when someone rp's distrust or *gasp* hostility toward their pc. RP can include hostile interactions, we aren't rp'ing a bunch of hippies and pacifists after all...

The reverse can also be said: don't take your OOC feelings for another(s) and let that determine your choices you make for your PC, in your RP. Make an enemy of jealousy and envy.
This is a Game, not a second life.
