Duster47 Appreciation Thread!

Unread post by Maecius »

Big, big, big props to Duster47 for getting an update successfully staged. There was a bit of a learning curve and quite a few hurdles for Duster to overcome in order to do this, but it looks, so far, like it went in without a hitch this time.

I'm really excited about this. It means we can start introducing new content again. We have quite a lot of it on the back burner.

This was my very official first take over on the staff forums:

Got in game and looked around. Everything seemed to display properly. I was able to get a quest from a quest giver, and the bulletin board worked fine. Started feeling excited:

Engaged some random passers-by, and was able to get RP XP.
Image
Tested out the DMFI tools, like languages, skill rolls, and scry, just to be sure. They all worked.
Image
I killed a bunch of critters with my bare hands, and got XP. I did not lose any XP.

Took one more look around.

Everything seems to be working correctly.

One post on the forum suggests that the Beard has been fixed now with the latest update, so the maps went in OK ...

I'll continue exploring for a little bit, but it looks like it's happening. It looks like you successfully staged an update. You did it, Duster! We're back in action!

This has made my whole weekend!

Please let the DMs know if you notice any bugs or weirdities, though. And be sure to thank Duster for being so awesome.

Thank you Duster! :D I know the journey has been long in trying to figure out these things.

I always believed in you though!!!

Also, I think you deserve a big thank you for not giving up, even in the difficult moments.

I will say thank you, but only because it's well deserved. I can't stay in the thread for too long, cringe is hitting critical levels. My ironic hipster sensibility can't handle all these gifs :ugeek: .

Whoo hoo! Duster! Way to go. Really appreciate the hard work. I know it can be crazy getting all those files to match up and make sure you have the right versions in there.

Yeah, I was just thinking today that the Autodownloader was working and that Duster posted a Server Update and it worked without a perceivable hitch, and that Duster figured it out on their own time and how much that means to the future of the Server and that we should all be thankful.

So thank you very much Duster.

Hear! Hear!

At the same time a big thanks to DM Cradh who took his time to sort all the information and make it more presentable.

Those thanks mostly go to DM Bloodlust. He took on the project about a year ago, even before he was on the DM team, and has been working it since. He definitely did great work compiling the information.

Head DMs posted it, but we'll probably put it under the Administrator account (with most of the other official server posts) when I do a forum face lift in a few weeks.
