Background:
Not much of Jack Spades early life is known, even to Jack himself.
What is known is that he was found at the door step of an orphanage in
Calimsham as a baby where he was looked after till the age of 12.
He hadn't spoken much about that time in his life except that it was harsh
and brutal, but never lonely.
He left the orphanage at the age of 12 after poisoning the head
administrator, to Jack's account 'he had it comming'
Taking up residence in the filthy back streets of Calimsham where he learnt
his trade as a rogue - picking pockets, breaking and entering as well as
the occasional stand over intimidation.
During his 'trade' work he managed to learn a little more than just getting
by, he even picked up some habits that still influence his behaviour today.
His departure from calimsham was quick and open to speculation, though some
say that his gambling debts got too high and was unable to pay the Pasha's
back.
Joining a gypsy caravan he set off to Waterdeep where he used his skills to
entertain the public, as the gypsy camps main acrobatics performer he was
able to dazzle the crowds and collect more coin than the troupe had managed
before. Though Waterdeep had other splendours and sights as well as
fortunes to be made. At night he set off to rob houses and spy on the
wealthy.
Eventually leaving the troupe, Jack was able to find work on a ship that was leaving for Luskan and so he set off in the high seas travelling on a merchant ship delivering spices
on route to Luskan. During its voyage, the ship was attacked by pirates, Its cargo seized and its crew taken as slaves, Jack was thrown in the gallows until the pirate
crew could sell him to slavery. But the pirate ship never made its destination as it was attacked by a patrol of the Neverwinter Navy.
Much to Jacks luck, he was rescued and re-imprisoned by the captain of the
Neverwinter Navy for piracy as they believed a demon spawn like him would
be a pirate as well, they figured that a pirate would also lock himself up
in the hope of passing off as prisoners themselves.
He was sent to the Neverwinter dungeons to await trial, which would occur
sometime between a week and 10 years, depending on how much gold you had.
It was during his time in prison, about 6 months to his reckoning that he
got to know the rest of the pirate lads and they weren't such bad folk...
only misguided.
The next part of this story is vague as he didn't explain it in much
detail, but by using a hair pin, a spell of darkness, 3 men's faeces and a
piece of string he claims that he was instrumental in his escape from the
Neverwinter dungeon.
The story of Jack now trails off with the last remnants of his deeds placed
him in Amn where he was last seen gambling, womanising, drinking and
smoking opium. He was last seen in Baldurs gate in the Docks district.
