Gibberling heart paladin option working as intended?

Spoilers ahead regarding the gibberling caves.

Killing the chief of the Gibberlings gives you his corrupted heart. Now, I haven't used the evil (consuming it for power) option but I believe it's safe to assume it gives some king of evil/dark reward.
The good(?) option allows you to purify the heart, and if you place it on the altar you get XP if it matches your character's alignment.
However, if you play a paladin there is another option, other than the crafting ones, similar to the 'purifying' one, except it's marked {Paladin}. Selecting this one destroys the heart and creates an ongoing Acid damage effect in the close area. However there is no reward at all, not even exp for doing something fitting to your class. I *think* there was a drop one time I did (mundane spear) but the other 3-4 times there was nothing.

My question here, is this behaviour intentional and if so why? If there's supposed to be a roll and the acid rain is the result of failure I think we should have some output text to indicate so.

Hello Eldebryn,
I think you are seeing here a unfortunate aspect of what you'll find with most Quests: they have only 1 way to achieve the best outcome, and sometimes, choosing the option that is most IC for your PC, is actually the worst option, in terms of XP and Gold.

It is similar to the Orc Chieftain's Head quest, given out at the Flaming Fist Headquarters. If you return the Head, and choose the option "I do not need a reward blah, blah, blah..." you get a much lesser reward from doing the Quest (but that is exactly what a good natured Paladin would choose, no?).

If Quests weren't such a pain in the rear to change, implement and not cause Epic Havoc, then I bet you'd see some changes made.

I see, did not realise that minor changes were such a PITA. Still, do you happen to know whether there *is* a chance at a drop/reward in the paladin option or it's always nothing?
Thanks for your time.

The gibberling heart is awesome, and has many awesome uses.
That's all I will say about that.
I was thinking it should be better for a paladin, but it isn't.

However, it is one of the best things in the game, until about level 10 or 11.

Oh, and also, it is a way that players could get XP and exploit it, like people said would happen with a RP XP token system I proposed long ago, but so far, nobody has seemed to do it. Wonder why?

Bleh.

I'd much rather, honestly, that quests gave items like the gibberling heart, instead of XP.

I've only done the quest on neutral characters and it only had one option. I am surprised that other characters had multiple choices.

If you're a druid, you can make a certain type of potion with the heart ;)

Survival gives perhaps the best long term buff you can find...

I am a little curious as to why the paladin one explodes into acid with no reward but hey maybe we are just not powerful enough!.

After some experimentation I found out that it does give a paladin-way reward, in terms of a long lasting buff. It's not amazing but it's nice and fits the theme. The only minor issue is that it would be nice to have some output informing us that we feel stronger or something along those lines.
