... so small wizards are less useless for their first 10 levels.

I saw a new player to the server playing a gnome wizard getting very frustrated the other day because he/she was unable to do anything at level 1-2, and couldn't equip either of the staves from Sorcerous Sundries that offer unlimited Magic Missile, Frost, etc.

This is especially sad for them because Wizard is a favored class for the race.

I have to correct you on this one point: gnomes have Bard as a Favored Class.

But yes, playing a low level Wizard on BG, especially if you are a newbie, is one of the most toughest choices.

Even if you are "established" wizards can be very very challenging.

the idea to add spells on daggers for casters is something that has come up but was ultimately shot down due to the fact that small weapons can be duel wielded and then there is no real guarantee that the one using it is actually a caster who the weapon is intended to help

therefore all the weapons have been kept to ones casters and generally only casters will end up using, like quarterstaves and xbows - and yes while there is xbow sniper one generally will not use a xbow with bonus spell slots unless they are also a caster
