Game crashing on me

Hey,
does someone have an advice for me? I am running the GOG version of the game, all settings enabled, on a win7 system. I do use the client extension. Recently i had a crash after which all settings reverted to first install mode (low res aso).
Today the game crashes regularly on me about 5 mins into it. Not only the game crashes but i have to reboot the system because of complete shutdown. I regularly get this from time to time but today i can`t play because everytime i login this happens.
Could it be connected to the new area updates? Are there any video options i should try turning of? Would be greatful for a solution of this.
regards

What kind of computer setup are you running?
Have you downloaded the latest drivers for your graphics card?
I'd wait to see if anyone more tech savvy than I has better advice before doing this: But if all else fails you may want to do a full reinstall of NWN2.

Any recommendations then?
I use Skywing Client's Extension.
I have it set to the highest setting for graphics (with no slow down, or drag on my RAM).

On my desktop, i run windows 8.1 and the client extension. I have the shadows disabled on the settings and max resolution. No crashes at all ( my game crashes very rarely )
If you havent, try disabling the shadows

I actually had this same issue today on both my laptop and my desktop. Both are running windows 10 and are fully updated. Until today I can't even remember the last time I had the client freeze but today at different times NWN2 froze on both of my computers and the freezes ended up completely freezing up both machines. I rebooted each and thus far I have not had any further issues so I am not sure what caused it but NWN2 was the only thing running on both.

When your game crashes, check the Chat log window—if you're using the Client Extension...the window that looks like a loverly DOS command screen—and pay attention to what gets posted there, when your game crashes.
Sometimes the Game will report the issue just before the crash. But not always.

Turned of shadows and behold. it ran for about ten mins this time. Then i get the video driver resetting. The screen freezes for a moment, turns black, resets itself, game runs for 1-2 secs and repeats the afformentioned. After 3 or 4 times blackening and resetting the pc freezes again and i have to cold restart. I don`t get any error messages Steve because i have to restart the machine as it completely freezes.
Guess i will have to try a fresh installation then :/

a few ideas...
- how much free storage space is available on your drives?
- have you installed any new hardware?
- have you installed any new software recently?
- are windows updates turned on?
- are the fans on the video card / CPU / power supply / case working? make sure there is adequate ventilation, and check for buildup of dust.
- is your power supply sufficient?
- scan your hard drives for errors
- scan windows for errors
- run stress tests on your pc to test both CPU and memory. (ex. prime95, memtest) to make sure you aren't crashing for other reasons
- reinstall video drivers
- reinstall dirextx drivers
- reinstall sound drivers
- there is more than one gog version of the game, you could try redownloading and reinstalling
I hope that helps

It seems to me as if your computer is overheating. Is it laptop? If it is, try to keep some space between your laptop's vents and your desk. See if that allows you to play longer. If it does, you should think about getting your laptop cleaned inside and replacing the thermal paste.

It`s a desktop. It`s no heat issue. I aplied new paste only half a year ago. Didn`t change hard or software. It`s a recurring prob on my system though. But after i started to use skywings it was tolerable as it only hapenned once a week or so. I think one of the last crashes messed my installation. Easiest to try a reinstall i guess.
Thanks for your suggestions guys. Will try to solve it after the holidays.
Merry Christmas!

If it's powering down and staying that way after immediately pressing the power button again to turn it on for a few seconds, it's thermal, followed by power though the second not likely in your scenario.
There are certain graphical events in the server that causes a halt for the game for me as well, I hadn't pin pointed it though it was during a heavy spell induced party's rummage through the Illithid mines.

I've been combating excessive crashes (anywhere from 5 to 15 in a span of ~2 hours) for the last 2 weeks or so. Finally today I think I found the correct compatability mode. I set it as compatible with windows 8 and it seems to have fixed the crash issue. (Which is really odd since when I had windows 8 the game ran like total garbage.) YMMV

I use the GOG version on Windows 7 Ultimate (because I'm stubborn and old school like that), and don't get a lot of crashing. It usually only happens once at most per day, and I've been playing a lot due to having a lot of free time for about a week and a half.
How are you doing on free hard drive space? Crashing happens more frequently when you are low on hard drive space.
