Sharing the happiness!

8 months ago I have been involved in helping the refugees arriving from Syria to the island of Lesvos, Greece. Our group was just 7-10 people, all volunteers with no support from any government or organization. It was a tough period, seeing first hand the drama of the refugees.

Even though there were tough times, the feeling of helping people in need, people that left everything behind because of war, in order to find a safe place for them and their families, is very satisfying. However, learning that your efforts have been recognized, not only by the people you help but from international organizations as well, makes one feel very proud.

Today we learned that the European Council has awarded our small organization (Agkalia) of 7-10 people the prestigious Raoul Wallenberg prize, for our humanitarian efforts in this refugee crisis.

It is a very prideful day for us and wanted to share it with everyone :D

This gives me hope, at a time when there's so much insensitivity and intolerance going around. Thanks, mrm3ntalist!

BRAVO! Well deserved recognition.

You cared enough to work hard and do the right thing. That made a difference in peoples lives, that are going through the worst of times.

I applaud you sir, sincerely. Its no small thing to move words into deeds. 17,000 people helped by Αγκαλιά, the article says. By 7 - 10 people. Amazing :)

EDIT: Edited to steal the greek letters Adamaklas used!

In these tough times, both for greece and the rest of the world, giving without return is a feat of strength and humanism.

There are no borders on earth. Αγκαλιά is one of the organizations that prove that without doubt.

You should be proud of yourself. It's an honor to be playing here with you !

I can't put into words how proud and thankful I am of you Nikos and your small group of volunteers giving of your time and self to help those people so in need. Day after day getting up early before your normal work day and staying late into the night after work giving selflessly is all worth it when you think of the thousands upon thousands of lives you saved ... it is simply astounding, astonishing and awe inspiring. Congratulations, much love and thanks to you and your small group of volunteers for being true humanitarians. :)
