I'm not going to post my planned build yet because it's pretty solid, and more importantly I don't want to limit people's imaginations. Here's the character:
He's an adventuring treasure hunter. Chaotic Good, he's mostly got a good heart and isn't averse to helping others. But he has a driving thirst for adventure and exploring. Abandoned ruins, ancient temples... those get his heart racing more than anything else.
Open to multiclassing, and am hoping maybe someone here will make a suggestion I havent thought of yet. He should be capable at traps and locks (but doesn't need to be amazing at it), self sufficient, should have decent strength for carrying stuff. I'm not looking to min-max. The only stat I'd take a negative on is wisdom, since he sometimes lets his sense of adventure overwhelm his good sense.
Build away!

Bard 30, STR high. Or, dip Rogue 3 for Evasion, or Anointed Knight 3 for Armor Proficiency for Battle Caster + mith plate.

AK is a bad dip. It's usually taken for the skill access to Tumble/Spellcraft/Heal, you've got the first two as a bard already.
26 Bard / 4 Fighter seems much better. Few more feats in a feat starved build and the armor / shields / weapon proficiencies.
27 Bard / 3 Rogue - good option for the skill access you're looking for and Evasion/Expose Weakness.
30 Bard is fine too. Wearing a mithral breastplate. Able learner to skill what you want, lockpicking etc.

Re: Mostly Bard Adventuring Treasure Hunter
What you describe is a human bard26/rogue4. You need to buy the medium armor qualification feat. Stack 5 skill points before each level of rogue ( 10/15/20 then the last rogue as late as you can ) and max open lock and disable device on those levels.
Evasion is a game changing defensive feat ( shrug of any reflex save spell, dragon breaths, traps etc), allowing you to solo areas you wouldn't be able before - yet people complain about expose weakness. Once you get evasion it makes sense to invest on Expose weakness

AK 4 gives Blind Fighting, Toughness for free, and then also 1 point of elemental damage. Easily opens the door to Steadfast Determination.matelener wrote:AK is a bad dip. It's usually taken for the skill access to Tumble/Spellcraft/Heal, you've got the first two as a bard already.

Depending on the Race then Bard23/F4/Ro3 or AK4/Ro3 seem solid choices. Generally speaking I rather think Rogue is wasted on a Bard though.- Weapon Proficiencies: All simple and martial weapons.
- Armor Proficiencies: All types of armor and all types of shields.

That's true on servers that you get evasion from items. On BG, rogue/evasion will allow you to solo the dracolich much easier, for example.Thorsson wrote:Generally speaking I rather think Rogue is wasted on a Bard though.

B23/F4/R3 send the best split. Make sure you take battle caster and practiced spell caster... You can put 1 point in open locks and pick the majority of locks over the server unless you really want to open every lock. Disable device you will want to max if you're going that route. Able learner will help if you can swing it, but M3ntalists way is more feat efficient (save 5 skill points each level up when you will level rogue next and take rogue at level 1).
Mithral full plate is exceedingly rare so if you want to try for Mithral half plate you can leave DEX at 10, otherwise 12 since nixies grace grants +4 DEX. Charisma either 14 or 13 with and item to get you to 16 for spells and strength as high as you can get.

You could also get Evasion from Cleric with the Water Domain. Cleric also gets you access to various other useful things...mrm3ntalist wrote:That's true on servers that you get evasion from items.
