Calling ALL Tech Support Guys!!!! Help Needed!

I have a friend who has a brand new laptop.
He's having horrible issues getting it on line and is in real need of help.
Can anyone please offer some advice as to what might help fix this?
He has already replaced the first one with a new one and it's still having
the same problem when he goes to connect.

so does he have a Ethernet port on the laptop?
and is this happening with every usb device or just this one

He could also invest in a repeater instead of rigging up some kind of antenna to his laptop.

It might be the cable he is using doesn't allow enough power to go through it, I had a cheap USB extension cable but when plugging in an external hard drive it wasn't enough to power the device fully.
Dunno if that might be the issue but i thought i would raise it here.

This was my first guess but if he's 2.4GHz the output isn't likely the issue.
Bad / pinched wiring is my next guess. A driver mismatch / issue isn't likely these days.
