[A fair amount a encoded messages apparently only understood to the writer follows with patches of regular elven text. If you are knowledgable of languages, you notice that some of the script used for the encoding is also undercommon and low drow. The journal is blackened and appears burned. It smells slightly sulferous and while the pages have aged and yellowed considerably, the pitch black ink contrasts to such an extant that you may suspect the ink is the truly the absence of color. Some pages stick together, bound by coagulated blood of battles past. There is no discernable title on the cover, and no apparent author.]

[What follows are excerpts of uncoded messages in the journal.]

[Various maps follow with encoded notes on each drawing. There are no seemingly complete maps, though several pages with encoded symbols that seem to indicate that one parchement attaches to the another. The titles and basic notes are written plainly on the maps of the outside entrances, but without a cipher, the casual reader would be unable to attach the maps to each other in the correct order, making them all but useless. The parchement is loosely filed in the middle of the journal with no apparent order.]
