Planewalker's Survival Guide to Faerun

Unread post by Flession »

((Player's Note: This is currently being written and is not yet found in publication.))

I speak now as a man who has left the Concordant Opposition of his own free will. There are those who may be like me and choose to leave their home to come here, and for that, I choose to write this guide better hope you tumble to a better way to deal with these Primers. So sorry you're going to have to read this; there is a real lack of Mimirs around here.

Chapter 1: The Basics

I have lived in this place for almost 10 years and the more I see of this place and these people, the more I have come to appreciate their simpler ways. Understanding that not everyone has had as much experience in the world as you have can help you learn, so here are five things for you to keep in mind while you stay here.

Not Every Primer's a Berk

Thinking you're better than everyone here can get you in the Dead-Book faster than a prayer to the Lady. It's their rules, not ours. They've been fighting the things we've been hanging around and they don't have Sigil's protection to prevent them from cutting loose. Treat them with respect, and most of them will do the same to you. Might even learn a thing or two from them.

Speak Their Tone

The Cant ain't for The Clueless, not to mention some of 'em got their own language and it's not even close to the usual way we speak. Your best bet is to watch how they act and listen to how they speak. Listen and learn, try it out and hopefully you won't turn heads, because you're going to have to...

Keep Your Mouth Shut
We know the truth, but most people don't and are happy to accept their simple lives as Primers. Go around, shooting your mouth about The Cage, Gate-Towns, anything else, and you'll be getting off lucky if they think you're just barmy. Most of the High-Ups here don't even know about what goes on out there, even those who can go to the other Planes don't know much about what goes on in the Outlands since they're so caught up what happens here. That also includes calling this place Toril. Call it the Realms, Faerun, whatever. Only seeks to confuse their understanding of things.

Pick a Power
If you're a Athar, you're pretty much going to be Lost if you end up dead. You'll be thrown up against a wall and your soul goes bye-bye. If you're planning on staying, you might risk end up getting killed. If you're look and your name ain't on the book, you're gonna need to find someone you can really relate to and worship. You worship a Power that isn't from Toril, you might be okay, but I'm not too sure. Do so at your own risk.

Following just these steps should get you started. In the next chapter book, I'll be discussing the different areas of Faerun and the people in charge of them.
Siggy says there's a 75.6% chance you'll catch this reference.
