what happens if you are looting a chest, and you see an item you dont want in it, can you just leave it in the chest now and if someone loots that same chest right behind you they wont be stuck with whatever item you left behind?

You can leave it behind. The loot will stay there for 5 minutes then be deleted.

what if the person in your party loots right after you though? will the item you left inside be there for them? or is a new loot generated for each character now as soon as they open the chest?

i believe loot is now character based. meaning if you leave loot in a chest, it will be there for you and you only for 5 minutes. another character will see something different.

This is not how it works. Once the loot spawns, anyone can see it or take it until the delete script erases it. The delete script will fire after 5 minutes as long as nobody is too close to the chest. IF someone is too close to the chest, it will wait another 5 minutes and try again etc...

So, if you leave a half-plate in there, and some other guy comes along to loot the chest right after, they'll find their spawned loot and the half-plate to boot right?
