item naming

Unread post by Theodore01 »

Deployed resorting of 6000+ items - some are marked for Deleting. If you find/see one you believe is essential, send item name to Duster47 via PM.
First off i was just running the 'Merchant's league dues' quest when i noticed that item here.
(old inactive quest item) Merchant's league dues

That quest is still working, so do not delete that item. :!:

Overall i don't like the naming scheme at all.
Finding items that start with (....) item name is so immersion-breaking for me.

examples:
the green empty (leather armor) leather armor
(studded leather) umber hulk studded leather +2
(gloves) gauntlets of crushing
(crossbow heavy) arbalist,lesser
(kama claw right) flesh carver
(arrow) arrow of dispelling

I can see that someone put a lot of time in sorting/renaming all these items and i'm thankful for doing that.

Maybe anyone has any ideas how to improve that naming scheme ?

I think if we replace the ( ) with [ ], the identifying text should be invisible to players (but visible to DMs, who would get the most use out of such markings). Or maybe it's < >?

Anyone toolset savvy enough to confirm which is the right punctuation/code?

I suspect these marks weren't intended to be visible to players, but I could be wrong. (The item organization was primarily meant to make life easier on DMs.)

Okay, apparently the correct brackets are { }. I've brought this up on the staff forums.

Ouch, sorry for that. I was the one that went through all of those thousands of items. I guess Maecius solution is the only one. It was done that way mainly to sort items for the DMs, not to be visible to the players  :o

Yeah, this was the point, though used wrong style bracketing symbols.

I submitted a punishment work order to lock Karond's account until all 5000+ items are re-visited. :o

;)

We know. Low priority. Will get to it probably in smaller batches. Until then ignore it and enjoy the other features of BGTSCC.

Closed.
