Question on a topic in the new update

- Dispel now uses casterlevel vs target spell's casterlevel (Bug fix).
Probably going to sound like a super noob question, but can someone tell me what was changed and how this effects my character?
I had heard there was a issue with dispel working based on Character level rather than caster level or something along those lines. Was this changed to be Caster level rather than Character level?

Yes, that's the fix. Do note that the update was reverted, it's not IG at the moment.

At the moment for the purposes of dispelling all spells (eg. buffs) have an effective caster level which equals your character level. So a level 18 wizard/ 12 fighter without practiced spellcaster would cast, for example, a Globe of Invunerability which would require a DC 41 dispel check (11+character level)
Said dispel check should be 11+ caster level, in this case, 11+18 =29. That is a big difference.
This change will affect heavily multiclassed characters (such as my Aeili!) more than full level casters, as it should.

Your caster level for the chosen spellcasting class increases by +4. This can't increase your caster level beyond your HD.
The above quote describes how PSC feat is ALSO supposed to work: Max CL of 30, unless your PC has particular PrC Feats—like in the Archmage PrC—that raises it beyond 30.
And I guess the Hierophant, when it does come online...the Big Deal of being a Master Caster!!!

Or a great meleer who just needs a couple of CLs once the dispel fix gets in.

Please explain—your post makes it sound "easier" for melee/melee gishes AFTER the Dispel fix comes online?!?

An example -
http://nwn2db.com/build/?235085
- Evasion : check
- lvl9 divine spells : check
- Always on damage with no need for EDM : check
- HP : check
The list goes on. What is the disadvantage? On BG it would have 25CL so a chance to be dispelled when the dispel fix gets in. Hierophant fixes that since it can now reach 28CL making it resilient to even the balors mords.

Okay, that build makes the best out of all it can have access to.
But my post above was certain Builds—with limited PrCs—should be the only ones to get above 30 CL, and thus the high DCs.
But I wasn't relating everything to the Balor...I guess that is what Power is compared to?

So If I have, once back at lvl 30 again, a level 4 paladin/3 Anointed Knight/3 Rogue/20 FS with practiced spellcaster, which makes him CL 24, he is screwed and will be dispeled constantly in epic areas or in PvP?

You will be dispeled by high CL casters, yes

That build is illegal though, see its NWN2DB comment. Hierophant can't help out melee builds. It's cleverly designed, and only helps caster builds or turning builds.

Second time now... that 7th lvl prereq will be the end of me.
