Weapon of Choice: Magic.

Background:
Kro's Parents were both Tieflings.
His father line was descended from a proud and long line of Baatezu (infernals/devils). His progenitor a fairly high ranking Pit Fiend from the nine hells (his true name unknown), from the plane of Phlegethos, specifically the great city of Abriymoch. Throughout the generations all attempts have been made to keep their Baatezu bloodline as pure as possible, mating was only ever done with other devils, half-devils and other infernal Tieflings.
Even so, the family bloodline was still watered down over the generations. For example, his mothers fiendish heritage is completely unknown. Kro likes to often joke that based on how much his parents argued, his mothers heritage must have been Abyssal in nature.
Both his parents did contract work for one of the burgeoning Thieves Guilds in Baldur's Gate. Unfortunately due to the nature of the work they did, and due to their heritage, they were never allowed full thieves guild membership. It is said though that his parents worked quite well as a team, gaining quite a bit of prominence within the fledgling guild.
That was when Kro was born.
His birth hampered the ability of his parents to go out on contracts. Also, there was the fact that he was born a hideous devil baby, having received the fiendish characteristics from both sides of his family. He seriously freaked people out and so the trio were eventually forced to leave the guild.
Not to end this part of the story on a bad note- his birth ended up being a blessing instead of a curse. The Flaming Fist soon after they left, staged a an attack and dismantled the growing thieves guild with great prejudice and force, killing many of its members. Kro's family decided this was to be the perfect time to leave Baldur's Gate and look for work elsewhere- Kro was a toddler at this time.
Of course they were shunned, and the brand of work they specialized in was hard to find. They kept to the road, always moving, or being forced to move, selling everything they had of value, they grew poorer and poorer. Kro has always strongly believed that if they were not in that desperate situation then things would not have turned out as they did.
Down to their last coppers they were approached by a wizard.
The human wizard wanted to use some of Kro's blood in a ritual to make a magic dagger. His parents who, with some magical knowledge themselves agreed to be part of this ritual, probably in an effort to be close by in case things went south, which they did. As it turned out, this wizard had plans to sell this dagger to an enemy of Kro's families progenitor and wanted to sacrifice Kro in ritual to create as sacrificial dagger than could slay the Pit fiend.
Sound far fetched?
A dagger to slay a powerful Baatezu?
It seemed completely insane- and it was. A plan hatched by a true madmad.
And Kro's parents screwed that plan up. They realized Kro was to be sacrificed and so jumped into action, ruining the ritual and saving Kro's life. The wizard as powerful as he was was forced to flee, and was only able to do so using Kro as his hostage. The wizard disappeared taking Kro with him.
It is unknown what happened to Kro's parents but Kro never saw them again. Instead he became the slave/apprentice/companion of this wizard merchant. They traveled the surface and underdark together and Kro's life as an adventurer began.

Character quirks: He comes across as a bit creepy or sinister. He grins maniacally a lot. His favorite curse is “Hells Bells”.
Attitude: He tries to portray himself as being cavalier attitude, or more specifically, a general disinterest in pretty much everything.
Goals: Originally it was to lie cheat and steal his way into power and wealth.
While under cover playing the nice guy searching for opportunities to exploit those around him, he actually found some measure of power and wealth, without resorting to acts of trickery manipulation deceit or general evilness. While fighting among the forces of good and morality he found wealth and the position of councilman with- Phoenix Company.
His current goals is to see Phoenix Company gain in power and wealth. So far he can do so by following the rules.
His attitude: 'why be bad if you do not have too'.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: He was recently converted to the side of good, well more precisely, to the side of not evil. He has been associating and influenced by those with morals and a sense of decency. The turning point was the time he was in possession of an ancient drow relic. The pure chaotic evil nature of this relic and the horrific dreams they gave him, basically scared him straight. But his roots, and background, including his racial heritage is one of wickedness and evil. If the opportunity arises he may become corrupt or even betray those around him. Best example is that he still respects and honors Mask although having converted to Azuth.

((I removed a previous post that was here and replaced it - February 27th, 2017))

*Somewhere north along the trade way, you spot a small rolled up scroll laying along the side of the trail. On the outside of the scroll, there is some writing in common:

"Letter to Bentley Mirrorshade of the Friendly Arms Inn"

If you choose to open it and read, it says:*

Dear Bentley,

Against your sound advise, you grumpy old badger, I have set off on my grandest of adventures yet!
Or perhaps, if your prediction is correct, my imminent and painful death.
Either way I have made up my mind, and by the time this letter reaches you, I would have already begun my journey to find the magical drow city of Sshamath.

My final decision to do something so drastic as to leave the surface and face the ominous Underdark was not because I am an outsider, in more ways than one, as you may believe. Well okay, no point being dishonest, maybe that is part of the reason.
But remember, I had many allies, even friends on the surface- I was even a council person of The Phoenix Company, at one time, lest you forget.
I had power, allies, and wealth, all in quantities, more than I could have ever hoped for.

So yes, well, sorry Bentley I have gotten off topic. We have already discussed why I am leaving. And so I say to you, this 'horned freak' is going to go to probably one of the most richest cities in magic in all of the coast. If I am to master the arcane, then I need to do so unrestricted, uninterrupted and without being taboo. The drow city is a deadly one, but also one so vastly full of the secrets of the arcane that it will surely be worth the risk.
And yes, it may also be a haven for an one such as myself....

I am rambling a bit - and yes, I must be mad. Irrelevant I say!

You let me stay in your Inn -thank you. And even though it was just the attic, it was more than a lot of innkeepers were ever willing to give me. I know, no thanks is needed, but I still wish to thank you anyway.
And yes it was my horns that tore up your pillows, not the waitresses in their frenzy. I finally confess, that should make you happy- you win.

The messenger that delivers this message will also pay you the remainder of my bar tab...plus a little extra to spend on new pillows.

Farewell you old, smelly bag of cheese!

Sincerely,

Kro
