Background: As a child Laoric had a very normal and mundane life, his father, a noble Paladin by the name of Hadruk envisioned his son following in his footsteps to pursue the order of the righteous as he did and his mother, ever so caring and loving, always there to nurture her son. Hadruk would teach his son the ways of the Paladin and never to turn his back on the many people that needed aid, Laoric obeyed for he longed for his fathers love and approval. Whenever they would get a chance the little family of 3 would take a trip, sometimes to the river, or the nearest village, depending on the area of course.
It was like any other day, Laoric did his daily chores, his mother prepared lunch while his father studied. Laoric asked if they could take a trip down to the river, his father was hesitant at first knowing that it was already the afternoon but decided to agree anyways. His mother finished preparing lunch, and organized it into a basket for the family to take with them and they set off towards the river. It was a small journey, only an hour or so, upon arrival it was very quiet and serene, Laorics mother began setting up their lunch while Hadruk took the opportunity to train Laoric in swordplay with wooden swords. Suddenly something spooked the animals in the treeline near by, birds rushed towards the sky and the crickets grew eerily quiet, Hadruk knew that something was close and ordered his family to stay near him, Laoric, young and confused asked what was wrong but just as the words rushed from his mouth his mother let out a cry of pain, the young boy turned to see his mother kneeling on the ground with 2 arrows in her chest. Laoric let out a cry of despair as he rushed over to his mother's lifeless body, his father Hadruk ordered him to run but he refused. Bandits surrounded the 2 and began closing in, Hadruk drew his weapon, prepared to fight for his sons life as well as his own. Without his armor Hadruk knew he didn't have much of a chance so he bartered for his son to be left alone, the bandits said not one word to the man before rushing him and ending his life, Laoric was totally alone in this moment and thought for sure he was next, the leader of the group demanded he be left alone saying that killing him would only ease his suffering and pain. The bandits stole everything they deemed could make a coin or two and laughed at the boy as they walked away, Laoric spent many hours crying until he fell asleep of over-exhaustion. As the sun rose he heard laughing and thought for sure the bandits had returned to finish the job, too afraid to look he just lie there in wait, the laughing quickly stopped and he heard many footsteps surround him, suddenly a gentle voice broke the silence "Little boy, are you okay?" he looked up to see a fair looking woman, with many children at her back all looking on with concern at the scene, his first instinct was to hug her, and he did just that.
She asked what his name was "Laoric" he replied sobbingly, "Well Laoric, lets get you home and cleaned up" she said in a cheery manner "Can't have you looking like that for dinner now can we?" as she brought him to her wagon she had arrived in, he sat down and fell asleep almost instantly feeling the comfort of a loving embrace. He woke abruptly to the wagon coming to a halt, as he looked around not noticing where he was the woman could tell he was confused "Calimport" she said "Your new home". When they pulled up to their home the boys all piled off, Laoric was lagging behind, the woman asked him what had happened back at the river. He told her everything he could remember and began to cry again, he felt alone, no family or friends, no belongings, nothing. The woman reached out her hand "Laoric, you've plenty of friends and family here if you so wish, all you must do is take my hand" the boy quickly grasped onto her hand and felt a sense of content, he was home again. He asked what her name was "Dear boy, you need not know my name, just call me Mother" he never questioned it or ever wondered why. The only thought that ever crossed his mind was that of those bandits that ruined his life, took everything from him, he imagined the things he would to do them if he were more powerful, tossing aside the teachings of his father "Righteousness!? Justice!? Peace!?. BAH! Foolish teachings, I will have my revenge, others will suffer as I have. I WILL SHOW THEM ALL!" he thought to himself and began studying in the dark arts.
On a quiet night in the spring season many years later his "Mother" quickly came into the room where the boys were sleeping, she demanded the boys to act with haste, they were confused at first but could tell something was wrong. She seemed sad and concerned "You need to leave right away!" she exclaimed "Know that I don't want you to leave but if you stay I cannot keep you boys safe anymore, I'm sending you north where you need to take care of each other, family is all you have, never forget that". The boys nodded, few left right away and others gathered possessions and tried to stay, Laoric left shortly after his younger brother Xela, a half-elf who always traveled light and quickly due to his upbringing in the forest.
The journey to Baldur's Gate went by quickly for Laoric. He traveled alone for he cared not for outsiders, only his family matters to him, all others are weak and puny, only agreeing to have followers or help when it benefits him in his goal. Along the journey to Baldur's gate he endured many encounters with whatever opposed him or his goals, but he never let that stop him. He arrived at Baldur's Gate and immediately set out to reunite with his brothers for he knew they were here...
Goals: To master the Dark arts and take revenge on anything in his way, and to inflict pain on the living.
