Bloody way of Goroth, from clan of Blackbone began with his birth in cold caves of Galena Mountains, located on border between Damara and Vassa in northeast part of Faerun. His father was Olgoth, who enslaved an Orc-female, named Shaka, from another tribe to become his concubine. Such choice of child-bearer was rather unusual, since tribe had enough woman with no need of enslaving outsiders, but clan sorcerer Olgoth convinced Chief, named Akoth the Ravager and High Priest Skun to let it happen. Yet he never said, what such special thing he saw in Shaka, but it was enough to make him argue with main figures of the clan. As usual for Gray Orcs, Blackbone considered any other tribe as heretics, but somehow, sorcerer managed to convince his superiors.

Goroth's first birthday gift was a death of his own mother: child was too big, even for an Orc, and no one cared about slave's internal traumas, even Olgoth himself. But Goroth never regret that, he even considered it as his first murder later, which he is proud of. Most of his childhood, he spent by traveling between different caves with his clan. Goroth grew up much faster, than another heirs of his clan, as well, as grew his unnatural aggression, hatred and lust for violence. He became youngest warrior of his clan, since he could hold a blade of his size almost like a toy, while other children just started practicing their fighting skills. He treated no one of his equals with any sort of respect, and make exceptions for older tribe members only because they were stronger.

Physical gifts were not the only ones, which distinguished him among the tribe: soon enough, Olgoth revealed to his son his true vision of the gods, which he rejected: clan sorcerer masked it well enough, and taught his son how to hide himself from the eyes of Skun, since Goroth easily accepted his father's teaching. He thought that gods doing nothing more, then preventing him from reaching power and knowledge, so they do not deserve his attention. Olgoth also said, that he was not native to Blackbone tribe, and joined them while he wandered the same caves alone, and that most of his life he understood the need to reject deities as object for worshipping. He learned how to cover his minds from others very good, and even could to fake his prayers to avoid execution. Son stood not far in his father’s cunning and intelligence as well: he even managed to learn Common language, for secret conversations between them. Raiding surface from time to time, Goroth felt himself like at heavens, nomadizing the deep caves of Galena Mountains, battling another tribes of orcs and goblins, and seeking new challenges. With time, Olgoth's teachings became more and more cruel, rooting deep in studying of ancient lore and alchemy, as well, as High Cleric's gazes became more and more suspicious. But Akoth, tribe Chief, at first was not so disturbed by Olgoth and his son. He appreciated Goroth as a warrior, and, perhaps, even as his heir of a Chief post, until Goroth started to show disrespect, and wasted too many time and strength to prove, how cruel he is to others.

Still, father and son covered themselves well enough. But, it could not continue for eternity: during one of the multiple campings, High Cleric managed to steal a scroll from Olgoth. The scroll was a descriptor of a fel sorcery arts, so Skun, Akoth and entire tribe demanded him to show every of his books, to prove, that Olgoth worships an orcish pantheon, rather than fiends, threatening both father and son with execution. But Olgoth was ready for this, since he predicted such outcome long ago already. Last words of incantation, prepared for a few past days, were spoken. Everyone expected to see the horde of some fiends, but only a single creature appeared, and it were more than enough: Balor entered through the Gate. Creature charged in battle with entire tribe, and opened additional portals to summon its allies. Goroth could literally feel, how fiends support him and his father, filling them with power to fight among them. Everything turned into a bloodbath, with splattered insides and burning bodies, and only few could escape to spread rumors about the “Kinslayers” later. But of course, even a powerful warlock cannot summon such forces free of charge. The demand was simple: life of a summoner or his own blood. Horde of fiends retreated fast: their part of bargain was completed; the only thing was left is death of Olgoth or his son. Obviously, Olgoth were not planning to die, as well as Goroth, so they stood against each other, and one incantation was enough to make Goroth burn to death. But Hezrou, whom Olgoth bargained with, has changed his mind: in a blink of an eye, warlock was stripped from his entire powers and fell on his knees. Goroth only smiled, raising his blade high. The last thing father heard from his son was a mad laugh, before old orc were sliced in two pieces. Goroth still could feel, how demonic magic burns in him. After death of Olgoth, his heir painted his own face with father's blood, drawing a skull tattoo on his face. Warlock's blood burned his skin, but pleasure of doing that made it worthy. Later on, this scary symbol remained on his face all the time: tainted blood could not be washed away. For days, he wandered in caves, trying to satisfy his new thirst for a blood, until he went in a dwarf territory. Hezrou’s magic faded away, and young Goroth just blacked out.

He awoke in a cage, chained and beaten: a dwarf clan renegades, which could be simply called a group of bandits, decided to take him as a trophy. Not as a prisoner: they were not intended even to feed him, they just took him as some achievement, that they could be proud of. He raged, tried to bash steel walls around him for hours, and dwarves decided to keep him for a laugh. Weeks of harassment and poor existence only made orc more violent. His hatred grew stronger with every minute. He did not count days, but totally he spent few years as a prisoner. But one day, duergars came. They had a much more of them in numbers, so group of dwarves was entirely killed, despite they shared some common hartred to dwarven clans with duergars, and Goroth offered his help to their leader, a sorcerer, named Duran Hellforge. Duran was a head of small group of a duergar adventurers, who just helped a Gray Dwarf clan they met, to get rid of all dwarves at this location. He wandered two years among them, and Duran shared Goroth’s lust for power and cruelty, and thus became his mentor. Goroth learned traditions and language of his new “friends”, as well as learned some history and were told about Drow Elves, but never encountered them. It lasted, until Goroth decided, that he has nothing more to learn: at night, he murdered Duran, stole his possessions and ran away. Duergars could not catch him, since he was trained for long undergrounds trips since his childhoods, while Gray Dwarfs are usually not so eager for a long run. With no food and water, he lost in caves, and Gray Dwarfs found him eventually. One, to be exact, and he was not well equipped, so Goroth killed him as well. The only thing that let him survive was the body of his victim: he used it as a food. In few days after, he finally found an exit to surface, and it lead him to a Moonsea.

There, he found a ship of a slaver, named Therous, who were heading to a Darkhold, and decided to offer his services as a guard, and such offering was gladly accepted. It was a long trip, and after they arrived in port on borders of Ilipur, their route was heading through the Hluthvar to Darkhold. Feeling to be subject of fear of slaves and even other guards was so satisfying, that Goroth remembered, how in his youth, while he was learning Common language, he spelled the word of “doom” as “druum”, and he decided to take it, as his second name, to inspire instinctive fear in others not with blade alone. There, at Hluthvar, Goroth and his team encountered a group of adventurers, who decided to set slaves free. It was a short battle: giant orc bashed unskilled youngsters with ease, but Therous was killed in this fight. That led to arguing, who will lead the group to Darkhold, and, of course, Goroth also was the one, who wishes to be in charge. Arguing led to a brawl, and brawl led to fight. Goroth acted carefully, until guards killed each other, and he could to execute the last one, weakened after the fight. After he finished, Goroth quickly decided, that there is no way to deliver such group of slaves alone, and they will be too hard burden to bear. So, he slaughtered each of them. Women, children and elders – no one left alive. With no food left again, he found simpliest decision once more: to get slave’s remains with him, if he planned not to starve to death, since he could not openly rob Hluthvar and remain undetected.

Eating humanoids turned out to be in very taste of Goroth, and he accepted it as his new ration. Current “supplies” were more than enough for now, and later he could feast on other creatures, like goblins. He spent some time in The Reaching Woods, studying Duran’s books, and found many new things about magic and the ways to become stronger. Yet his lust for power and blood is not satisfied, he decided to travel west, seeking for his own road to be filled with energy, Hezrou once granted him, more and more again. His own blood called for it, and he could not resist. That’s, how he arrived in borders of Soubar, where his journey truly began.

Background changes: Dwarven clan, who captured Goroth, replaced with group of dwarven bandits, which seems more fitting to story.
