Help with sorc?

Hello, new here. I've been browsing the forums and couldn't find much to help me, so I must be blind.

So instead I've been looking through a few builds because I'm terrible at making them myself so I wanted to atleast have /something / to follow, then I can mess with it myself to fit my character more

http://ecb2nwn2.faerunonline.com/builds ... 97197.html

I settled for this, but then noticed that RDD is not allowed, I understand why but I'm now left at a loss on what to fill that gap with. I aim to RP an extremely clumsy mage who /tries/ to hold her own in a meleƩ since her own fire magic would most likely faill/fizzle/backcast upon her.

Or at least something like that...Any help would be nice x.o

You might like to substitute RDD with Dragon Slayer.
Hidden: show
Dragon Slayer
They come from all walks of life, from all cultures and societies. They may be poor or wealthy, strong or wise, good or evil, skilled with blade or spell. But all dragonslayers share a singular courage and strength of heart, a necessary commodity in their line of work.
This class provides spellcasting progression in either Arcane, Divine, or Invocation based casters.
Spellcasting progression also works for blackguards and assassins.

Requirements:
Base Attack Bonus: +5.
Feats: Dodge, Iron Will.
Skills: Tumble 2.

Class Features:
- HD: d10
- BAB: High
- High Saves: Fort, Will
- Weapon proficiency: Simple and Martial
- Armor proficiency: All armor and shields (including Tower Shields)
- Class Skills: Craft Armor, Craft Weapon, Intimidate, Lore, Parry, Search, and Tumble.
- Skill Points: 2 + Int modifier

Class Abilities:
Level 1: Aura of Courage, Damage Bonus (vs Dragons), Spellcasting Progression
Level 2: True Strike 1/day, Spell Penetration
Level 3: DR 1/-
Level 4:
Level 5: Energy Resistance 5
Level 6: DR 2/-, Lightning Reflexes
Level 7: Greater Spell Penetration
Level 8:
Level 9: DR 3/-
Level 10: Energy Resistance 10, True Strike 2/day

- Spellcasting: At each odd level (1, 3, 5, 7, 9), you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in an arcane, divine, or invocation based spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a dragonslayer, you must decide which class to progress in. This includes Assassin, Avenger, and Blackguard.

- Aura of Courage: At 1st level, a dragonslayer gains immunity to fear. Allies within 10 feet of the dragonslayer gain a +4 bonus on saving throws against fear effects.

- Damage Bonus: A dragonslayer gains a bonus on weapon damage rolls against dragons equal to his class level.

- True Strike: At 2nd level, a dragonslayer may use true strike once per day. At 10th level, a dragonslayer may use true strike twice per day.

- Damage Reduction: At 3rd level, a dragonslayer gains damage reduction 1/-. This improves to damage reduction 2/- at 6th level, and to damage reduction 3/- at 9th level. This damage reduction only stacks with the DR granted by Greater Resiliency and the epic damage reduction feats.

- Energy Resistance: At 5th level, a dragonslayer gains resistance to acid 5, cold 5, electricity 5, fire 5, and sonic 5. These resistances improve to 10 at 10th level.
It gives some spellcasting progression and a few nifty bonus feats (like spell penetration and damage resistances). The only thing you will need to consider is whether it is worth losing 2 other feats to take its pre-requisites (Dodge, Iron Will). It might be better to take more levels in sorcerer instead.

So just completely replace RDD levels with more sorc? I can do that! Sounds easy too ^-^ Thank you~ Now to go and burn my own hair in an attempt to use fire magic

You'll probably have to tweak your build significantly though if you still wish to qualify for EDM. You'll have to min-max with CHA & STR being your highest two starting stats.

One of the more experienced character builders could probably do a better job with this than I ever could. Just wait for one or two of them to suggest something for you!

I wouldn't follow that build. It's not that well suited to the server, the RDD class aside. It's mediocre CL, reliance on no ASF armors and equipment that we don't have on the server is bound to set you up for disappointment.

Sorcerer spellblades are quite rare, as there is a big trade-off with them. Normally, what spellblades lack is damage. EDM fixes that, sure, for about 14 minutes per rest. You do need CL and BAB to be as high as possible though. 6S/4BG/10EK/10DM ends with 28 CL and 24 BAB, while a 7S/10EK/10DS/3BG gets 26 CL and 26 BAB setting you up for that 6th attack (or 27 BAB, 25 CL with 4BG/6S).

You're dead set on a sorcerer that does melee though? Wizards are usually favored for that. No EDM, true, but easier to fit in the required feats and going for auto-still. You could also just opt to make a tanky mage, which wouldn't be very good in melee but has a high survivability. Something with 10 palemaster/3 dragonslayer in it.

7S/10EK/10DS/3BG with Practiced Spell Caster = 25CL (7+9+5+4), going to 4BG/6S lowers this to 24. (I made the same mistake recently as I'd forgotten level 1 of EK doesn't give caster level progression).

It should be noted that higher is better, though as a sorc getting dispelled is not as bad, you still don't want to lose your protections while trying to take down the Frost Giant King or something.

Also agree that what you give up for a sorcerer gish makes you lose a lot for EDM... You could go with Bard which is sort of an automatic gish and still has the spontaneous/sorcerer style casting.

Finally, something that you can do to help with feats (but loses 1 AB) is to replace BG with Cleric (requires human or a race with cleric or sorc as favored class). There are domains that grant feats, I believe Iron Will is in there somewhere if you pick a deity with the appropriate domain available. However, taking 3 cleric levels will still require you to have some RP centered around the dogma.

Hm this is giving me a lot of think about. Might have to come up with a new character then If I can't go with sorc. I honestly don't see myself getting past level 10 anyway as I would 'hopefully' be busy RPing instead. All these building words are so confusing ;-; I just want some kinda of sorc that may/may not hit things with a stick..or at least tries too.
