Deity Banners

Maybe they can be added to the prop merchant's inventory..?
They are not so special that one needs to bother a DM each time and it would be quite neat to just go and get one if needed.
Some do not even know of their existence.. and it is a RP prop after all.

Since apparently these items all belong to a similar category of base item (see:
http://www.bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=50494) perhaps a generic off hand prop item can be added and have the ability to change it with the appearance changer into the banner you want. Not sure if that is a simpler solution or not, but it is an idea.
But I am in support of Telia in making these things more accessible, you know if this is a vote, lol.

Until you have priests of [insert evil god's name here] wandering around the city with a banner of [insert good god's name here], telling the populace that they will cure their ills in exchange for coin.
Which is a legitimate use, sure, until the inevitable pvp headaches start.

And? If X player wants to do that thing, let him face the consequences of his actions. Don't let your personal distaste for PVP stifle another's RP oppurtunities.
Edit: Not you specifically, mind you, you as in whoever is reading this to whom it may apply.

My character does this every time he enters the Baldur's Gate, which is often. Not a peep out of another character, ever. Few care about the power of the Gods, and even less about the power of characters.
Banners are the new fashion mode this year. And we simply cannot have fashion be ignored!!!

That was not quite my point.
1. Umberlee is not a prohibited deity in BG.
2. I was not advocating the pronouncement of an evil deity's dogmatics (not that this applies in Umberlee's case, being a permitted deity in BG), but rather the deceptive promulgation of good deity by a servant of an evil deity for personal (or other!) gain. Unless that is actually what you do?
I don't have a problem with point 2 above from an IC perspective; I only voice concerns when the inevitable conflict arises (possibly even in the city) which could lead to a few headaches for the DM team if complaints start rolling in.
Of course, players of evil toons can always just ask the DM team for this stuff, just the same as others already do (and it would make an interesting plot, too)
If players can be responsible about it (just like so many other IC & PvP matters) then I have no qualms. But therein lays the potential difficulty, I feel.

So if I am following this right, you are taking the stance that an evil character should not be allowed the tools to effectively deceive others? I don't follow, or perhaps I misunderstand your intent here.

I thought made that concession rather markedly
I have no probs with evils running deceptive plots (many do that already rather successfully). I just perceived that this could become a PvP issue leading towards the metagaming of guards and guilds, etc.
Hence why I feel it's better to be in DM hands. Let the players ask for them for whatever IC reason they are wanted. Hopefully the DMs are of the opinion that is not too onerous a task for them to be distributed upon request!
[Edit] Of course I could be of a more optimistic persuasion and say that there is probably more RP benefit in permitting the OP's suggestion, and that players should be given the benefit of the doubt to use such props appropriately. I simply wished to point out one potential negative as I have above.

I get what you are saying now, I suppose I just have a very "Laissez-faire" attitude about these sorts of things. If the DMs don't absolutely and without question need to have eversight of it, then don't make them oversee it. I would be much happier if the DM's had more time to spend on the things they signed up to do, like planning and running events and generating RP and generally bringing the server to life.

Ah right. So when the silly laws and OOC rules about guards who cover every single inch of the city basically ruin RP within the city for a lot of evil characters, that's perfectly fine. No complaints about that. But god forbid a good aligned character is faced with a situation within the city where they are tempted to pvp someone. Right? Best to keep the city "clean" for team good. Why don't we just expand the gate guards script which turns you away if you have a mask to turn away evil aligned characters as well and be done with it already?

When the banners were originally added IG, there was a concern from Staff (years ago) about PC's running amuk with banners. Hence DM distribution.
No idea if current Staff feels the same way about it.
FWIW, the merchant option is probably easier to deploy than the AppChanger option.

It is already possible to dress up as follower or cleric of another deity and deceive people.
I feel that over-caution should not come in the way of RP when it comes to, in my opinion, a quite harmless thing.
It is. Just. Banners.
If characters suddenly begin to burn banners of X god... well. They can already do that now by simply emoting it, or carrying other things (emoted) of deity X.

These will very slowly be added, a few at a time. A tapestry vendor may someday appear, too.
First will be Sune, Sharess and Lliira sold somewhere in BG that supports beauty and joy.

While we're on the topic, how about adding prop weapons with the "no damage" property to a basic vendor or prop vendor somewhere as well?
