Enchanting?!

- Enchanting recipe spells are now QC only. Players will see a menu with no choices if they cast the spells.

- Enchanting spells updated to mention requiring an imbue spell, before enchanting can work.

Excerpts from http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?p=642108#p642108 (latest update, the big one)

I take this to mean enchanting was working and people were in fact making use of it in secret? Can anyone elaborate on this?

It's a QC feature only. The Enchanting System was created by Rasael a long time ago. It just has not been implemented yet. The IG spells are part of that framework I believe?

According to those notes, it is only just now QC only... Why was that change needed if QC was the only one with access before? Has the system been being abused?

It probably wasn't in game until just now :P

I'm not QC so you'll have to wait for one of them to answer.

Its not entirely finished. The enchanting works but the gold and slot costs are still being adjusted. The mechanic also needs some user-friendliness adjustments.

Because it went live we restricted it to QC use for now. That limitation can very quickly be switched off once its done. No download-update required.

Its cool for players to see that it exists, and that its incoming. I imagine that it gives something to look forward to, and you can take the spells in anticipation.

Some questions:

1. Spell slots total?
A normal magical item contains 12 enchantment slots which may be divided among different enchantments.
Enchantment Type: Enchantment Slot Cost: Limit:
Ability bonus +1 = 4, +2 = 9, +3 = 15 +3
If I read these notes correctly, an Item has only 12 slots, but for Ability Bonus of +3, it requires 15 slots? That would then be impossible, right?

2 .Besides needing the appropriate Craft Feat (Wondrous Items, Arms & Armor, etc.), and having sky high Spellcraft, I would assume the Crafter also needs:
  • 1. The Weapon or Armor Proficiency.
    2. High Skill ranks in the appropriate Skill (Craft Armor, Craft Weapon). Or not, because crafting is actually different to enchanting?!?
    3. Memorized Spells for Spell per day???
    4. A high CL?
3. Will there be any Enchanting/Crafting custom Feats added along with the System (it it IS ever added)? Like, Epic Skill Focus: Spellcraft?

Enchantment slots are higher for epic level casters, so as you level you can actually get up to 20 slots total.

This has not been decided upon yet. We have brought up in QC that at minimum they should be required to have craft weapons and armor or craft wondrous items (depending on what they are crafting). However, you bring up some other possibilities that could limit them such as weapon/armor proficiencies and skill ranks. These are really great discussion points. Someone in QC also brought up requiring rare gems and such for crafting, but I am not sure if that will happen or not.

There is not currently an enchantment to give a feat and I believe the bonus spell slots enchantment may be removed. In it's current format you can't enchant anything as powerful as epic weapons and armors that some are lucky enough to find. Mostly just low epic, like +4 EB w/ 1-4 bonus elemental dmg weapons, +4 AC to armor, natural, deflection and dodge, +1 Regen (on cloaks only)... however, many of the costs are so high that they really can't be built (Vamp Regen +1, for instance can't be added if you give +4 EB or 1-4 damage bonus). Currently it is in a very conservative format and once ready to implement we will keep an eye and adjust based on the impact.

Then, as a follow up:

What if you already have a +4 EB, 1d4 acid, keen weapon...are you already at max? Essentially, we all know we mostly find Loot that is like 80-90% perfect...but that 10% always makes it so unappealing to use, that it is better to sell off and keeping searching/hoping.

So for most Players, I really think the greatest use of Enchanting is to be able to "adjust" and add to already existing items from the RPG.

unfortunately in the current design you can only enchant items with no current enchantment. Therefore when you enchant something with existing enchantments those enchants are wiped off. Not sure if (eventually) you will be able to add to existing enchantments, but currently it is not possible.

So that means in the Enchanting system being looked at by QC, one essentially CANNOT enchant items better than what the RIG or a NPC Merchant will provide?

Pretty much. The spells or crafting isn't intended to make the kind of weapon Thids showcased in this topic.
