Quick Rebuild/RCR

Unread post by NegInfinity »

Suggestion:
Add an option to RCR npc to take all your xp (resetting your level to 1) then immediately give it all back.

That would allow easier rebuild without messing with item transfer and character deletion.

that would be nice

tho the only issue i can think of that it would cause is now instead of wizards having to pay a lot of gold to redo spells they will get 2 extra spells per level, one could just keep doing it till they have a full book because wizards do not lose anything with delevel, unlike a sorc

Yes, there are several exploits with this. Some abilities and feats just don't go away after a delevel, which is why DMs won't delevel certain characters.

Spending 2 more minutes to create a new character is acceptable to negate any exploits ;)

A sweet addition to the RCR would be if when surrendering the XP, the inventory and Gold Coin would also be copied, so when the new toon goes to receive the XP, they also pick up the inventory and coin.

That would alleviate the need for transfer help, the possible loss of a campfire, or stolen items.

It is more like 30 minutes. 15 minutes to haul over all your stuff, and 15 more minutes to find trustworthy person to carry over the gold. If you made a mistake, you'll have to do it all over again.

I think that it would be acceptable to implement check for problematic feats and permaban anybody who's caught abusing the system in some unpredictable way.

I also do not think that "it can be exploited" is a valid argument against it. Everything can be exploited in some way. Concentrating too much on possible exploits will result in re-enactment of that "hacker and salt shaker" story.

Or that.
I basically need to transfer over gold, items, and appeararance (optionally with base stats, age, description) to the new char. Quick RCR is one way to go about it. Copying old items over is another way. I think that implementing QUick RCR with a check for problematic feats will be faster than making a script that would copy items.

Yes you should. Although it has higher chance to cause trouble to DM team due to unforseen side effect that occurs while copying items.

I also advise that next time anybody spots a problem, they ALSO propose a possible workaround to it. Doing things this way will be more productive, because people will be cooperating instead of just trying to shut down every proposition that gets posted on this forum.

I think BMD and Karond were simply informing you why we didn't go the route of level 1 rebuilds, we didn't have an 'easy' answer to some problems caused with feats, skillpoints and spells. I don't know that the idea's posted in this thread are probable/possible (especially due to the fact that there are other priorities to address and by the time Ras/D47 can get around to this 100% RCR will be nearing it's end or already over.)

I will bring it up in the QC forums, but I don't see where in any post your thoughts here were shut down, just explanations of why we ended up with the implementation as it stands.

the DMs can already copy someones inventory, it wouldnt be too far fetched to think that it could be added as an RCR option, tho checking gold might have to be another thing also, if i remember right the DM copy doesnt do gold

A possible solution to this could be a NPC on the Nexus that allows the storage of your items and gold. But a problem could be the untransferrable items. So with them, DM help will be still needed.

Actually, the current way of doing things can't. Which is why its there, as opposed to your or Steve's suggestion which open up possibilities for bugs, exploits and headaches no matter how well intended.

I actually screwed something up on one character and gotta re-RCR, after spending upwards to 2 hours for their first RCR. Spent 40k gold scribing and buying scrolls to move over spells... only to choose a wrong feat. Isn't there a way to remove the spell we leveled up to get and keep the ones we scribed? Cause spending 40k gold to only have to Re-RCR is broken in itself.

But I suppose even allowing us to RCR is a gift. Even so, Wizards deal with the worst of RCRing.

if a wizard delevels they keep everything, already covered that, there is no way around it aside from rcr

doesnt change that RCRing a wiz is balls, i know, but DMs are talking about it at least

My play style is to make a character, play it, realize I wanted it a tad flavored differently, (really, I make them with a hazy idea of their personality, then watch them organically gain their own).

I'd RCR, even with 1/2 xp penalty, except that the equipment transfer is VERY scary, and the gold transfer is also difficult.

I'd really like an RCR helper NPC like this.

I think it should not bog down the server too much, since it would only allow 1 character per player, and I think the actual inventory is only called up when needed.

Could a server RCR database vault be created that would store the items of one and only one character while the RCR was taking place?
