Crafter toon

I know our crafting/enchanting dynamics are not set in stone yet.

I'm planning on RCRing one of my less played characters into a crafter toon. Looking at the wikia entries, I would need to take the feats craft magical arms & armor and craft wondrous items (though others on this forum have said that even this is yet to be confirmed).

How about ranks in the Craft Armor/Weapon skills? Is it likely these skills would be needed too? I do recognize there is a huge difference between crafting armor/weapons from raw materials and enchanting them with magical properties. But the terms "crafting" and "enchanting" are often used interchangeably here so it can get confusing.

Also, not knowing whether 100% RCR is here to stay (official word is of course NO), I won't want to be stuck with 2 feats that are in the end not needed, not to mention the crafting skill ranks as well.

Any advice?

Hijacked from the bug report thread:

I did cast Imbue Item beforehand, targeting a mundane set of robes with right-click.

Then I cast Rune of Skill. The only option that comes up is "No Skill", which might just be the server telling me something. :?

Maybe there is something I am missing?
Enchanting is NOT ACTIVATED so it should not work. This should be QC only right now as the system is not final. You can take the spells, the feats, etc...but until the system is implemented you won't be able to create magic items.
I know enchanting is not finalized yet. But still, would anyone be able to give some quasi-authoritative indication whether the Craft Magical Arms & Amor, & Wondrous Items feats are going to be required?

I really hate to be stuck with 2 useless feats once RCR100% reverts to the old arrangement.

they are currently going to be required, possibly other feat(s) too...possibly.

It is very important to understand that building a character right now to be able to instantly craft when implemented is absolutely taking a big risk in the sense that some of the needed things to craft may not currently be available. It is very much an ongoing discussion (WiP) so building your crafter now may be setting yourself up for frustration and RCR later.

Any timeframe on when the crafting system will be functioning?

Come on, you surely are old enough by now to know the inevitable answer to this: "It's ready when it's ready"?

why not just RC, claim your xp and sit in the nexus and wait? When it is released just assign your stuff and then you are ready to go with everything working.

Not sure if this works, it depends on how the code is set. For example the RC bot might take all your exp; then divide it by 2 (half) when you try to claim it (normal) or it could just take half the exp then give back half?

If you leave the exp on the RC bot, when things go back to normal there is a slight chance the code will just divide by 2 and give you back half.

I think they mean claim the XP back on your new crafter character, but do not level them up beyond level 1 until the new system goes live. The character will retain the full XP value until you decide to level them up.

Oh, and making a crafter character is fun, I had one on another server once. Had absolutely no combat potential but could make almost everything. Great RP potential.

Whether they meant it or not, then this is the way to go. What could possibly go wrong?

that was exactly what I meant, seeing as you can claim full xp and just not spent it till the various things are released.

Its not entirely finished. The enchanting works but the gold and slot costs are still being adjusted. The mechanic also needs some user-friendliness adjustments.

Because it went live we restricted it to QC use for now. That limitation can very quickly be switched off once its done. No download-update required.

Its cool for players to see that it exists, and that its incoming. I imagine that it gives something to look forward to, and you can take the spells in anticipation.
Make what you want of that. I, however, will be taking Rasael at his word and taking the feats/spells in preparation! 8-)

Also, from the discussions happening in QC the feats Craft Magical Arms & Armor and Craft Wondrous Item will be essential. Crafting skills may not be because this is an Enchanting system, not a crafting system.

There is a difference between making a suit of full plate (Craft: Armorsmithing), and making an already manufactured suit of fullplate become +3 (Craft Magical Arms & Armor).

All these things are still up for discussion/testing in QC.
