Experimenting vs Lore

Okay, so I probably should have asked before I made the character and set roots as him... But, Is it possible to have a character experiment their spells through the study of dragons as a wizard? I have this Wizard character who is ecstatic about them, and claimed that they were studying dragons into an advanced degree. Though only in a journal, and of course only in RP.
But, theoretically, can a Wizard claim to be augmenting their spellpower through their personal studies of other magical beasts such as dragons?
If not, I'll have to change what he studies... But if so, I'll feel a bit at ease RP wise when explaining myself...

Well, dragons and such are sorcerers not wizards right? I'm not very good at lore. Maybe you could develop spells if you know how they think etc. which work better on them, but I don't think that would help you with Finger of Death for example-

a wizard can study anything and gain insight experience but if you mean prodigy/natural affinity stuff then yea thats kinda specifically restricted to sorc (and bards) because of the whole blood thing
sorcs and bard that focus on their draconic bloodline (basically learning draconic spells) gain +1 DC when casting draconic spells

I thought this a really interesting question so drew me in
As Blackman D did said, innate / bloodline abilities are the realms of Sorcs / bards but that doesn't mean you cannot improve your own spell casting techniques through the study of dragons. A lot of RW advances came from the study of nature / animals after all.
Ie. You could claim your study of red dragons helped you advance your evocation techniques (Ie. Helped you gain spell focus: Evocation. The other relevant colours for the other schools). Maybe your study of the intensity of dragon magic helped you gain spell penetration, or studying dragonfire (say green dragons for acid) helped you develop one of the reserve feats (Acidic splatter, Rune of Vitriol).
Of course your could always claim that through experimentation you distilled the blood of a Dragon and drank it, empowering your own blood, leading to err ... a not so popular PRC on the Sword coast
As long as you don't RP what ISN'T on your char sheet, imagination is the limit to the rest (Oh, and DM's of course

)

That one I did! Except it was to empower the character's existing dragon blood + acquire the Dragon Warrior class.
As for the question:
Silver dragons are the masters of transmutation, shapechange to be specific.
Green dragons are the masters of manipulation and guile.
Red dragons are the masters of destruction
etc etc.
You could easily observe the way a dragon casts magic and use it as inspiration. An interesting thing about dragons is that their magic is actually somewhat weak, limited. You could use this fact as an inspiration for figuring out ways to cast spells in a more economic way. Dragons also eschew materials, so there's also that bonus!
Also!
Those 2 spells you get/level up? You have absolute free reign to say that it was YOUR CHARACTER who researched how to cast them completely independently. Now it's another question that others have the same spell effect produced but consider real world science. People kept coming up with the same thing independently and all of them claimed to be the author. If a spell doesn't have a creator's name added to it, you could easily say you designed the frost breath spell after the breath of a a silver/white dragon.
