Alive - Reset - Fugue

Encountered a werid bug when logged in after reset. My character was sent to Fugue by Mystra even though he was alive before loging out of the game.

My best guess is that the game decided i didn't get out of the dangerous location with enemies in time, or didn't even log out (latency or something).

Time of my log was after 1+ hour of server work, character name is Aneris Dagorin.
If this data helps somehow.

where were you when you logged out? were you in an area where a monster may have spawned or were you in a safe zone when you logged?

Generally DM's do not grant any XP refund for this sort of thing, but you can reach out via PM if you care to ask them about it.

I went out of the graveyard location to eastern farmlands and logged out, I belive.

500 xp is not a big deal, just reporting a bug.

It may be worth mentioning that the server became ultra laggy for me.
Sometimes world just freezes its interraction, my messages wont appear in chat, i can still walk but can't go to another location and npc do not appear in my vision and so on.
Either I log out or being disconnected, I can't log back in with the "server not responding" error.
(DDOS?)

Can they possibly be a reason for the "offline death" bug?

The most common reason for logging out while alive, and then having Mystra tell you that you're dead next server reset is:

- You were carrying the corpse of a friend, trying to get to safety,
- You were killed while carrying the corpse, whether you realized it or not,
- The death system freaked out about there being two corpses where they should only be one, so you dropped your friend's corpse, but you were given back full HP and left alive,
- You managed to escape with the full HP refresh ...
- But your alive/dead switch was still toggled.
- So you log out in fine health, but when you come back, Mystra says "yeah, my records say you're dead. Go work it out with Myrkul."

It's an old death script issue that we're not really sure how to fix without doing a full reimagining of the death system. Were you carrying a corpse at any point during your play time?

There was a corpse i tried to pick up, but was unable to initiate dialog window.
I was clicking it hard with no results. Propably someone dead left the game, or, maybe a dm-event-dead npc.

Then, when there was a message about reset, i left the graveyard and logged out.

I have seen firsthand that when we get a DDoS attack, it can sometimes take several minutes for your character to actually log out of the game. Perhaps in that time monsters killed you.

If you had any HP spells up those go by by when you log out. So if you are injured when the server goes down you will die immediately upon relogging. Don't log though usually someone in the Nexus is nice enough to raise you.

From my expierence, the death Switch is toggled before being send to fugue. There is a small window where you can recieve a lethal blow, get set as dead, and recieve HP by potion or any other healing device. This can stop the send to fugue script. You won't appear as coprse either. This Kind of Thing is easier to during laggy times. That way you can look alive, but be considered dead by Mystra.
