MaA+Blackguard

Unread post by Bobthehero »

I realised I am going nowhere with my current MaA-Blackguard character.

Right now he's a level 7 MaA 1 Blackguard.

His feats are Exotic wpn, Wpn focus bastard sword, Luck of heroes, Heavy armor optimisation, Cleave and Power attack.

I just don't know what feats I could take now, hell I am not even sure of the split I want between the two of them (I really want that level 7 skeleton summon, but on the other hand, MaA seems to be pretty good when you invest a lot of levels in it)

So now what, I am thinking about going the shield bash and friends route, along with more AC feats.

After some testing, here's what I came up with
Hidden: show
1- MaA Exotic wpn + luck of Heroes

2- MaA

3- MaA Wpn focus Bastard Sword

4- MaA +1 STR

5- MaA Power Atk

6- MaA Cleave

7- MaA

8- BG +1 STR

9- BG Shield Bash

10- BG

11- BG

12- BG +1 DEX Divine Str

13- BG

14- BG

15- MaA Shield Spec Heavy

16- MaA +1 STR

17- MaA Agile Shield Fighter

18- MaA Imp Crit, B-sword

19- MaA

20- MaA +1 STR

21- MaA +1 EPIC Str

22- MaA Wpn Focus Heavy shield

23- MaA +1 EPIC Cha

24- MaA +1 CHA

25- MaA +1 EPIC Cha

26- MaA

27- MaA Epic Wpn Focus Heavy Shield, +1 EPIC Cha

28- MaA +1 CHA

29- MaA Epic Divine Might

30- MaA Dodge
I could swap a few feat (Imp crit/Epic Wpn Focus Hvy Shield/Dodge) and take Shield Charge => Shield Slam. Not sure if that's worth it tho.

You don't say how high your toons CHA is versus STR, but have you considered MaA 11 / Fighter 12 / Blackguard 3 / Rogue 4 ?

And if that skeleton summons is your RP objective-based-on-mechanics—you could also use scrolls 8-) —you could go Fighter 8 / Blackguard 7.

Never take dodge in the epic levels, if you don't need it for anything else f. e. mobility.

Dodge:
The character gains a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks from his current target or last attacker.

Amor Skin:
The character gains a +1 natural armor bonus to Armor Class.

Also if you plan to only take Dodge earlier then better skip it and take Amor Skin later.

The guys starts with 16 Str and Cha, I am able to take EDM. I don't want to level another fighter, as I already have 2 of them, so I am rather set on MaA for a change. As for scrolls, meh, I was never a fan of UMD, never used it on any characters.

Oh... I always read Armor skin as +1 DR. Noted, will swap that around for sure, thanks.

Well then, no fighter levels. So, you could consider something like this:

It's decent at least, especially with splits like 26-27 MAA/ 3-4 BG. You really need a lot of MAA levels to make the class work with its class abilities because its all based on its level. Unfortunately, a pure MAA is not very good and it really need BG or P to get something more out of that charisma investment (as well as much needed damage from EDM).

Maybe you could aim for an undead summon through scrolls instead? It's not as good as the level 7 summon, sure, but that way at least you remain a competent character rather than subpar with a minion that's only really good at non-epic levels.

Or how about MaA splash, BG splash, Fighter and something else (WoD?)
Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it

I'd probably do that if it wasn't the third build that has fighter, I want to break away from it while still doing a melee build in plate, and I quite like the challenge mechanic.
