Anything that is not mithril/regen cloak can be changed via appearance changer. Press button on bottom left of the screen, select "Appearance changer" from menu.

I thought they put in a warning about that when using the changer in Maltz. I will have to check into that and follow up with the Dev Team. If you catch a DM in game, ask them to swap it out for you if you are still to low a level to use the cloak with the apperanced changed.
